From the JayCar site. I really, really doubt your alternator is going to pump that much power out. As far as I know, there's no point running it direct off the alternator, which runs straight to the battery anyway, because if it needs more than the alternator can provide, it will simply pull the current down the wire from the battery anyway, there's no real difference between putting the power line for it on the + battery terminal and on the alternator output terminal. Good idea though, waterheaters are bastards. Pity an electric one draws so much power...What IS your alternator rated too anyway?

there are a few things that will alter the amount of current required, but basicly watts/volts = amps..

    so 150/12= 12.5A or 250w = 20A.

my altenator is rated to 80A i think.. (1J soarer) a 8/9" thermo fan will pull about 90W.. a bigger one 120w..

On low they draw a max of 12.5amps and on high a max of 20amps. Once up to heat I would be expecting probably 3/4 those ratings. If you electricial system cannot handle that I think you may have some issues.

I'll definately make you spend more money on shit to do it properly, otherwise we can do the old 'twist-and-cover-with-tape' like that abortion I was confronted with a couple of weeks ago!

Glad you made this thread though - looks like I may be investing in one of these 'air-to-air' heaters for emergencies too!

haha noo nooo jezz porn i havent forgotten about jjooooo

im on 2 weeks holidays now so hopefully by the end of this week i can have the car back together again, havent had alot of time (read - lazy) to work on the car of late, its sitting on the lawn and the battery is flat AGAIN, charging it up over nite so i can put it back in the garage. but ill be visiting the wreckers tomorrow to get a new heater core and some screws for the dizzy cap.

fone call from mee sooonn dont you worry

    I HAVE A GARAGE AGAIN

i might buy one of these and see jsut how hard it would be to install into my current airbox but for the time being it'll be easier to use a ke70 compelete box and core ect.

    dragging this one up again.

ive been looking for the heater on the jaycar website for a while and thought that theyve dissappeared. that link above confirmed my suspicion as the jaycar link says 'item not available'

has anyone got a ex jaycar item they want to sell?

the next best alternative i can find is something like this

Replacing a heater core on a box Corolla isn't exactly hard to do, it's one of those things you tend to spend more time thinking up excuses for than actually doing. Electric ones really only serve a place in rally cars etc.
