Default 1JZ A340 oil type and capacity

    hi all,

Just wanting to confirm if Dex 2 is the correct oil to use for this box, just been reading though toyota manuals.. and wondering if it's the best thing for a modified valve body etc..

it's got an MV shift kit (not sure what 'stage' but it's one of the harsher ones), and 4300 (i think) stall..

also what is the capacity of it dry?

    cheers,

    Mat

For a stock box Dex 2 is the go, it's even marked on the dipstick. Dunno about modded.

Would also be interested to know the capacity, ima need to service mine soon as its starting to shift a bit ghey

just confirmed it with Mike from MV, when they do the converter and valve body, they are 'calibrated' to run Dex 3.

Capacity is approx 9-9.5 L depending on the cooler setup.

My Dipstick says Dexron II on my 1jz.

Can use either Dexron II or III, or ATF that meets those specifications

I've noticed that on cars that specifically ask for T Type, e.g V8 Celsior, V8 Soarer, if you use Dexron III you will get a horrific shudder on take off.

as MV have built the converter, and the valve body i called them to ask what he recommends, his response was the new converter is built to run on Dex 3 so fill it up..

what exactly in an auto box defines the use of a particular oil?

the box had a II on the drain plug, i'm assuming this referenced dex II oil? AFAIK it's a JZX81 or soarer box..

My A340 with MV modified converter and stage 1.5 shift kit has always run Toyota Type IV fluid, changed regularly, and have never had a single issue.

not sure if its the same as the a340d od trans we got in the states in the mk3 celica but i ran dex3 in it and it slips like a beast. running toyota type 4 i have no issues. i think its anti-foam agent works wonders

^^^ That's the one buzzbomb, dead right on the anti-foaming agent.

Guys, make sure you very accurately set your oil level too, its quite important. Set your basic level off the cold mark on the dipstick after filling and bleeding the system, then go for a good drive (not just 5 minutes to get the coolant temp up, you need the box to be up to temp, which is around 80 degrees also), then check the dipstick level again with the car stationary, on a level surface, idling in "PARK"

    Cheers
