    Default 1JZ CEL and vibration

I've just fitted a 1JZ and W58 into my MX83 and get the CEL after about a minute of driving. If I park the car and leave it for a while, the CEL will be gone when I come back to fire it up again, but give it another minute and it's back. I tried bridging E1 and TE1 in the diags plug but it does nothing to the CEL.

The other issue I have is a vibration that is proportional to engine revs. Doesn't matter if it's in gear or out or if the clutch is in or out. It kind of feels like a dropped cyl but the plugs all look nice and clean, there is definitely not one that looks worse than the others.

I'm buggered if I can figure out if (a) these 2 things are related, and (b) WTF is going on!

In answer to your vibration issue, is the engine missing ? how does the exhaust sound, smooth or fluffy / popping, even if it's down on a cylinder as the rev's rise whilst stationery the engine will tend to feel smoother, but reading your report you say your vibration gets worse with rev's, to me it sounds like you might have a clutch pressure plate or flywheel out of balance ..

I guess the magnitude of the vibration as such does not increase, just the frequency. The engine has a real raw growling sound when accelerating, but hard for me to tell if it's a miss because I don't know how a good 1J is meant to drive (performance etc.) I'm going to change the plugs and see if that makes any difference

could it be something related to the washers you used to space out the pressure plate?

and the vibrations are causing the knock sensors to trigger

The vibration was there before I spaced the pressure plate out.

Trace back TE1 to the engine ECU to check it is OK would be one thing to check...

Maybe you don't have the BATT engine ECU wire connected so it's not logging codes?... Regardless it should flash when you bridge TE1 to E1 so it sounds like something is not working there...!

have you tried disconnecting each coil pack to see if the tune of the engine changes on idle?.. if you disconnect one and the tune of the engine doesnt change you know that cylinder isnt working, could be due to faulty/dirty fuel injector, wiring, dead coilpack, compression etc..

I can confirm after being under the car tonight that the flywheel has a wobble. i also noticed while under there that there was a strange plonking nose coming from somewhere around that end of the crank.
