I have one and i reccomend one to any who are looking for an entry level ECU with datalogging ect..
Great to know. I have a PS1000 on my 120Y (talk about overcapitalising!) and it's brilliant, would recommend current Haltech range to anyone.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

Nope, its not down to the tuner... there are lots of basic features/settings that are missing from Microtech's that make them crap for street cars.
Horrible idle control, no closed loop, 2D ignition map, low fuel tuning resolution, hard to use hand controller, terrible laptop software, very limited data logging... to name a few.

    Another vote for the Adaptronic.
Another big NO for the Microtech.

If I took a guess by your description and your sig, this might be for an EA82T? My vote goes to the Megasquirt, you can get everything you need for a lot less than other standalone systems and tuning it yourself might not be as hard as you think.

E420C comes in just under 1K I think. The new SELECT one that I have been drooling over comes in just under 1.5K too.

Probably a bit out of your budget but Autronic, maybe a second hand SMC, I have been using Autronic since they were made, my 86 uses an SM2 which is so old it was actually one of their handmade development ecu's, I got it back about 1990 used it on an RX3, then updated the processor and used on my 86, has everything I need, launch control, traction control, etc etc and has never given any problems.

You're right in that it's for the Subaru EA82T, but it currently has an NA MPFI EA82.
The Microtech was promised to me, but things that flagged "warning" to me included tuning for 30psi of boost (on an engine that has similar head gasket problems to the 7M if treated badly), & having to lock the dizzy

The engine's no powerhouse (especially for a 1.8 turbo) but the factory tuning is so bad that an aftermarket ECU will release 30-40kW without any other mods, and that there's a heap of different factory ECU's depending on which engine & year it was released.

Early ones controlled fuel only via a flap airflow and had a separate box for the dizzy advance
Later ones had hotwire airflow and ECU controlled spark & fuel along with potentiometer type TPS (what I have).

Problem is the engine I've got has a JDM inlet manifold that flows a lot better than the one from here, which the ADM ECU can't compensate for. Along with the addition of an intercooler, I'd like to aim for a reliable 120-130kW (flywheel) vs standard 85-90.

Not aiming for a ball tearer, but I've got some very unique (for Oz) bits for this car.

slightly offtopic - i've driven an RX turbo wagon about 9 years ago (fresh import) and i have to say... it was a little underwhelming to say the least as i was expecting a little more... the car itself was absolutley beautiful though! alot nicer to drive than the normal L series motor... it's like that was the way they should have released all of them, rather than with an asmatic NA 1.8, although it was better than the EA81 ......

would be good to see a nicly tuned one that actually runs a turbo bigger than a coffee mug, and uses some form of intercooler! keep us posted with the results!

I had a converted Touring wagon about 12 years ago now.
Stupid thing was that a housemate had a JE Camira wagon (ie 2.0 SOHC manual) & it was almost as quick (being 300kg lighter helped though also)

Considering that Toyota already had a 3S-GTE at the same time, Subaru were well behind the game until the EJ20T

Mine's only going to be a cruiser thing. Ditched the dual range part time 4wd box for a single range full time 4wd.

just promise me you will at the very least intercool it with something! anything! as it doesn't utilise knock control, and obviously your tuning it a little more aggressively..

    +1 Megasquirt.

    You can get an assembled MS1 3.0PCB for US$329 or MS2 3.0PCB for $US399.
    Build it yourself, it's even cheaper, MS1 PCB3.0 Kit for US$US193 and MS3 PCB3.0 for US$253

Go the old school scooby doo!

Off topic, again - Hmmmn I just brought the Microtech lts10s, 4 igniton coils for my 3sge, soon to be installed. Bugger, apparently they are the ducks nuts up here... we must of only upgraded from kangaroo's pouches recently

I agree about the tuner vs ecu issue, but you gotta use what your tuner knows... bugger again

    GL wagonist

    Kind Regards
