Centre support bearing mounted in the wrong holes in the floor?
Hi Guys,
I have my Cressida with 1JZ in at MVAutos currently, having the auto serviced, and was getting him to replace my tailshaft centre bearing while it was in there.
He just gave me a call, to let me know that I must have the wrong REAR section of tailshaft in the car, as its is 20mm too short.
I have a S2 MX83 GLX, with a JZX81 engine, mounted on stock mounts, and I installed a Grande LSD at some point.
Has anyone ever heard of the rear section of the tailshaft being too short after installing the Grande LSD?
It is the only thing I can thing of that could be causing the issue.
Thanks,
Herus
Centre support bearing mounted in the wrong holes in the floor?
He has it up on the hoist at the moment, surely if there was extra holes he would be able to see them?
Im learning a lot from this endevor...
Tailshafts are balanced together, as a complete unit
There is only one set of holes on the bottom of the cressida.
I think I know the problem though.
Image is huge, so here is a link
Looks to me like the centre bearing is backwards.

Surely they would know if the centre bearing is backwards....

lol...
At this stage I have no idea..
My original tailshaft is 770mm flange to flange, the replacement is 800mm flange to flange, and mine is definately too short, even with the bearing on the other way.
Thats pretty random, I've never heard of anyone with an MX83 have tailshaft length issues.
Even those who have Grande LSD's, convert to MA70 diffs, or go manual. The rear half of the tailshaft has never been an issue.

The tailshaft rear section sometimes shortens itself under power as there is a bonded rubber section in it causing it to twist and in turn sucking the shaft shorter.

That was the only thing I could think of.. That some how it had shortened.
Would it do it perfectly centred though?
It still sits exactly in the middle.
