I'm surprised by the price and lack of data for the HKS unit. It's a good price (for HKS) but no info????

Can anybody comment on spark plug life with a CDI ignition? If copper cored spark plugs can last 5000km of largely normal driving, then that's acceptable. But if it required Iridium plugs and they were only lasting 5000-10000km (or less), then that makes it to expensive for daily use.

Also thinking about playing around with my own CDI design to see if it works? I have already built single channel units before, so might be worth the fun to even just play with the idea of doing it.

from what I have found the Crane HI-6DI2 (the Distributorless one) only has 2 channels. Do they make one with 4 channels?

Decided that I will design/build my own multi-channel CDI unit. I know readily available units are good, but I am in the electronics field and love the prospect of a new project

I will probably start a new thread for all those interested, once I get the preliminary schematic drawn up.

I strongly believe that one can be made that addresses reliability issues some of the "brand" name CDI's have and also believe that the cost will be significantly reduced.

I will probably do a back-back test with a "brand name" unit when I am finished too.

    Should be fun!
