honestly i think im getting a head of my self

i think i will go VVTi if i find one cheap if not just normal one do basics cams and valve springs and do ITB and extractors and ECU if then i decided i need more power (whitch i doubt having a 300+kw 1j in the driveway) i could always drive the other car or build a vvti 2jz with all the wiz bang stuff

so back to the last build list i dont and we will still keep port and polish to a maybe

As for build like i said no build budget i can afford to blow 500 a week on random crap normally gets spent on maccas kfc and so forth HAHA and random shit and after i pay off my creditcard that will go up to about a grand a week to blow on things and engine build time will be about 6 months im guessing give or take

like i said im not in a rush to do the conversion more just researching and get it all done right the 1st time saves me doing things twice like picking wrong TB or as before the wrong motor and so on

Rob, why not actually get the motor to fit into the car before thinking of all these nice mods. Surely there are more important things, like bigger brakes and gearboxes/diffs to nut out first....

Why would i do that? then have to remove the items to then re fit items? sort of like doing labor twice? sounds pretty stupid to me you can get a engine running before it is in the car not hard,

and the reason i asked this is it the last thing to sort out i know what diff is going in it, i know what gearbox is going in it i know what brakes are going in it it was just down to what engine to run, and what suited my needs best

and from this thread it has now turned into a good lil NA thread with a bit of info

I think I know where TTMX83 is coming from.
    (Based on firsthand experience.)

Whatever you expect to spend doing an engine/drivetrain swap on something like that, multiply by approximately 3x, and that is likely what your cost will wind up being at the end.

When I did an engine swap on my Corolla, I went for an imported engine and tranny. This limited my exposure to additional costs, and allowed me to focus my efforts (and limited time) on actually getting the swap done. It was my first engine swap for an engine that didn't belong in a chassis, so although I didn't wind up with the turbo I had hoped for, I got it done and running within my budgeted time and money.

I won't say you are wrong, as I never got around to putting the turbo in my car that I had originally planned. It is just that I would rather see you with a completed project than a really cool project that has an excessively long and excessively expensive gestation.
On my next project I will start with the motor I want. For this next time however, I now have the experience to draw from.

Well, you have to work out sump position, dummy fit motor and gearbox to fab up mounts, find out what fits where, move shit blah blah etc etc.

Where I was coming from was to get it in standard, as the motor will run, sort out any niggles then add your performance parts when it is up and running well. This way you get a proper seat of the pants before and after fo the difference of the mods and that information would be great for this thread.

Nothing like trying to get an engine to run AND try to tune it AND sort out teething issues all at the same time......

I subscribed to this as I am very interested to see the outcome although I am a fan of the earlier suggestion of a 2JZGE Vvti as the base

    Cheers Brad.

Do the conversion first and get it sorted (you need a front sump) - part of that will require an exhaust so you might as well pony up for some decent extractors at the time. There is so much shit you have to buy and fit to get it running reliably. You will go from 60 to 120 rwkW just by doing that.

Fitting ITBs and doing crazy headwork/cams adds another layer of complexity to the build. That's fine if you have infinite patience, tremendous commitment and deep pockets but most of us don't. You might just end up with an expensive jigsaw puzzle.

Once you start seeking shit out, stuff just seems to fall out of the sky - 2JZGE heads suddenly fall out of the sky, spare motors appear for $200.

To add extra information the late model gs300 (2000+) have a nicer looking factory header compared to the earlier set. To what I have seen toyota has gone through 3-4 revisions in 2jzge vvti headers.

    Cheers.

The hardest thing of this conversion will be enginemounts and exhaust manifold

everything else im pretty set with and have access and the tools to do everything else the biggest issue will be time
