    if black, titanium carbide
    if yellow, titanium nitride.

Sam - the Euro 10 to 1 pistons are 18mm pins... THAT was the problem, I can get a floating 20mm pin easily, it was sourcing a non floating, true 18mm pin that caused my issue

"18mm" pin, which was actually 17.983mm(.70800")

race engines... $110 a pin to save 1/2 of the pins mass(89 grams down to 44 grams) - sorry this is a no brainer to me.... *IF* this set up could have been made to last long term, I'd have jumped ALL over it

the C350 and titanium pins REQUIRE a DLH coating

just rang High Performance Coatings.... they do not have a coating they would use on titanium pins to harden them, in fact they also bought up the issue of stress risers and advised they would probably not be the way to go. i mentioned DLH coating and they didnt know what i was talking about.

looks like they will be made out of something else, or just bored out standard ones

still waiting for my damn linisher to arrive so i can get started on the rods, they are all sandblasted and ready to rock & roll

Good luck making Ti pins accurately with just a lathe also. A cylindrical grinder would be needed to finish the pins anyhow. The ol emry finish in the lathe probably wouldnt do.

yes I know I was thread jacking for my own personal gain. I wonder what the real world gains would be of the lighter pin, it is where it could most be used.

every gram of reciprocating mass you save helps, if it is rotating with the crank the further off the centreline it is the bigger difference it will make (ie pistons/rods).

so far, as well as the lighter 5m crank, i am also running 5m balancer and 225mm flywheel (7m is 240mm) -both have meat taken off, also taken approx 400g off the oil pump jackshaft, lighter forged pistons, all drive pulleys lightened (even timing cogs), no engine fan or water pump to spin either. i would like to lose some more in the valvetrain but with 24 of everything to do the $$ add up VERY quickly.

What specs are the wrist pins you need? Whats the harm in me asking, and finding a price... I'm sure shipping 6 titanium wrist pins isn't going to break your bank.......

thanks for the offer mate, but i am the type of person who likes to make things myself rather than buy. aside from the pistons, and boring/decking pretty much everything on the motor will be done/made by me and my old man.... between the 2 of us we pretty much have a full machine shop, plus i like the challenge and satisfaction of making things

for the pins i will look into the best material for the job, get some bar stock and machine away happily need to do more research on titanium + DLH coating to see if it is viable, i already have the material which is a bonus.
