Define cheap?
I'm looking for a cheap way to rid the Soarer (MZ11) of the under-slung tank and put a small tank behind the rear seat.
The rally-spec way of doing things is a fabricated tank like this example, but I'm trying to go even cheaper and use an existing tank.
By using an EFI-suitable in-boot tank, I just have to deal with a filler in the boot (no major problem) and at the same time, hopefully eliminate the need for a swirl pot, carry less fuel and thus less weight, and finally, remove the huge and low-slung rock-and-stick-collector factory fuel tank.
The early Celica/Corolla coupe (and sedans) have a carbi-suitable tank that sits between the rear wheel arches. Did any of the later EFI models take a similar approach or did they all end up underneath the car?
Define cheap?
Later model Soarer tank?

how big does it need to be?
KE10 tanks are about 5 or 10L smaller than KE20 tank.. can measure up if you want.
enough space on top to put a centre mounted hanger.
ala (this is KE20 tank btw, KE10 is less tall

Not really small no, but we haven't got measurements for the space he has. As a similar style of car it is potentially more suitable than the quite tall Corolla/Celica tanks, just extends further rearward..

sorry, should have added more detail. i only need enough fuel for 30 - 60 competitive km plus liason of similar distance. car is/will be doing club rallies (gravel). engine is 7mge, stock ecu (then megasquirt), w58, 4.3
diff, mz10 with cage. i reckon 40 litres would be heaps. most rallies have longer liason that competitive stages.
fwiw, a wrx or evo running in state-level comp will use up to 1litre per competitive km. i expect to use a lot less.
by cheap i mean you could buy a carton of ordinary beer with the samr amount of coin. so far this project has cost bugger all.
rear end would be similar to mx7x cressida and i want to mount tank in the boot, above the diff and between the wheel arches. existing spare wheel bin will be mostly removed (will be about 20-30mm deep) but i have to fit the spare in the boot.

Go buy a plastic container that wont melt and strap it down mount a fuel pump etc and your away laughing
until it fails scrutineering
KE10 tank.. 80cm wide, 30cm high (includes the 3cm or so of flash all round), adn 30cm deep at base, and abotu 23-24cm deep at the top..
can't remember volume.
KE20 (pictured above) is taller. width same, base depth same.

36 and 45 litres respectively
Cam mountain I feel different from the ordinary
thanks for the info guys.
Would prefer a metal tank (and would have to pass scrutineering anyway).
what about a Gemini tank??
matty: they had an EFI option? i always thought the only speciality was diesel. Scarcity would be be an issue but it an option.
Am not choosy about where it comes from, just that an EFI tank will be an easier proposition than a carbi tank- unless it's kept fairly full. Filler hose for any tank will probably have to be a flexible hose.
I'll have to take a trip down to ABC at Blacksoil and go looking at more wrecks. I'm guessing that most EFI cars will have the tank under the car - if only to increase boot space.
Aren't some Skylines behind the rear seat? Probably a bit big for what you are wanting though.

sorry, i didn't read the efi.. my mistake.. there not and were using a surge tank in the 1JZ setup for that very reason..
