Default Do I really need a fuel swirl pot?

I have my VL commodore with a JZZ30 1JZ-GTE in it, a factory low presure pump feeding a 1.1litre swirl pot then feeding a walbro HP pump to the engine, ust wondering if its needed or if I can remove it and feed the HP pump straight from the LP pump whic sits in a factory swirl pot inside the tank?

as long as the LP pump can deliver the volume needed by the HP pump, should be ok.
is the fuel rail returning to the tank or the swirl pot?

have you considered not touching it ? if it's in there and working and not leaking or hanging too low i'd leave it alone. is there a specific reason you want to take it out ?
so much stuff. so little time.

the fuel rail is returning to the tank due to the fact i killed a brand new LP pump by starving it when the tank got to 1/4 of a tank and fuel wasnt getting into the in tank swirl pot which relies on a pressured return to the swirl pot to draw more fuel into the pot

I am looking at the possibility of removing it due issues with fuel vapors coming into the car with any of the windows down. simple theory less fuel lines, less joins , less chance of leaks ..... just looking at this as I cant find the source of the fuel smell, if i remove it and smell goes away ..process of elimination.

well, if the return is going to tank already, and the LP pump doesn't have any issues keeping up with the HP pump now, then no hassles with removing swirl pot

as others have said before, normal rubber lines will leak a bit, enough to have smell, even if there are no leaks as such... so for incabin lines, teflon lined is recommended... or something like that (it's late...)

thats the problem, i dont have any internal fuel lines, the swirl pot is mounted under the rear of the car, there are no fumes in the car if the windows are kept up

As its a EFI tank with its own swirl pot as you mentionin in my opinion there should be no need for an extra swirl pot unless you are doing some serious drifting etc ..

This may sound stupid but check the fuel tank cap. I have this with my hilux sometimes. I put the cap on but it does not lock in and seal properly. It took me ages to find it the first time. I only noticed it the next time i filled up.
