Good work. I definately look forward to seeing the results of that. Rep for you for doing some real testing to help out the community.
Well I'm going to get the non balance shafted motor, the balance shafted motor and the balance shafted motor with balance shafts removed tested on a rig of some sort (talking to an engine builder atm) and I guess I'll let you all know how it goes in regards to vibrations, strength, rotating mass etc etc!

With a standard 5S FE can you simply block the oil feed to the balance shaft box and then remove it , or take the shafts out of it ? How much noticiable difference in NVH is there , anyone tryed it ? 1UZFTTZZE ?
Oh and also if you change the oil in a 5 S every 5000klm they dont have the oil sludging problem that happens if you do it every 10000 lkm

A; To drop a 5S crank into a 3S block (which I have done in years gone by) requires custome rods/and/or /pistons.Originally Posted by off-road
You avoid this extra expense using the 5S block.
B: Yes I can confirm the late model 5S cranks are 8 bolt NOT 6 (early had 6)
I am 99% sure the 5S block is the same height as the 3S block (will check this later today as I plan on doing some work on the motors). So whether you stick a 5S crank into a 3S block or a 5S block will make no difference to the requirement of selecting a rod/piston combination that doesn't punch the head off
Yeah taking the balance shafts out simply requires that the oil feeds are blocked off and the balance shaft assembly is removed from the sump. The only remnant of the balance shaft will be the gear on the crank to drive it.

That's incorrect. the 5S deck sits much higher than 3S (about 5 to 6mm from memory)
The gear on the crank can and should be removed from the crank to reduce weight and prevent foaming the oil up.
Yeah i'm just about to check that myself actuallyhad band practise early today
