Default 2JZ auto, rubber coupling how to convert to slip yoke

I have a 2JZGTE auto that i'm using for a conversion in another car. I have a problem in that the rubber coupling takes up most of the small trans tunnel, and doesn't leave enough room for me to get the shifter inkage through. I see that some other versions of the A340/341 have a normal slip yoke style output, which obviously would have a much smaller diameter and allow me to fit my linkage through.

How hard is it to swap over the rear output sections on these boxes?

Will it cause any other issues?

Any other ideas or help would be great.

Significant work to convert to slip yoke. Have to change the shaft within the box...

    See the below link

One option that I'd suggest is using the non-rubber coupling as show in the below pic!

JZA80 2JZGTE had the above flange...

    Toyodiy says:

    Part number: 34780‑14020
34780E, YOKE ASSY, FLANGE (FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION), JZA80..4FC..TWT, $169.85

    http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_199...JPQZ_3510.html

And I believe that some Hilux also have a flange that works...Auto Hilux A340H I've been told...http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/sho...2&postcount=18

its possible that you could cut the spigot off and use a slip yoke as im pretty sure they have the same spline and seal in the gearbox to match.

offcourse you would need to investigate further whether you can do this.

if u dont run a slip yoke in end of gbox and are running a normal diff
then u need a tailshaft with slip yoke in middle somewhere

You can swap the output shafts out, haven't heard of people who are running it like that though! (and it's a job for someone who can dismantle AND put things back together....)

If you have an MX83 Grande (as per your sig) you can either get the flange machined off and some other way of connecting it, or just get a flange put on your existing driveshaft (also needs to be shortened)... As the grande has IRS, the diff doesn't move, so you don't really need the slip yoke... I believe

i just used a hilux surf / landcruiser tail shaft that has a slip yoke in built .. and used the 4 bolt flange as per the above posts

works a treat . im IRS as well . but its still nice to have some give in the tailshaft ( thus why they used a rubber donut , or in the case of jza80 and slip section )

Definatly need some sort of slip, just not as much in an irs vehicle. Bushes still have some movement, so the tailshaft still has to have a certain amount of slip. Some newer vehicles don't have a slip joint per say, but change in length is catered for by CV joints as the movement is not very much at all. As said hilux/landcruiser tailshaft parts could be a go, there are a couple of flange stud paterns so search for the right one, or have a blank drilled to suit, any driveline shop will be able to help you out if you can't find the right parts at a wreckers.
