how much machining will depend on your engine state, it needs to be dissassembled and checked. It might be possible to just fit new bearings, give it a hone and have new rings, gaskets and seals
Can anyone with relevant experience provide some information on what they believe to be essential processes to prepare a 2JZGTE for a standard rebuild using standard internals?
For example, what machining is required? cleaning? testing ect ect
Cheers

Essential processes for rebuild 2jz.
Hmmm, lets see.
Hot tank everything
Inspect
Hone bores
Re-seal & gasket everything
Fit new rings and bearings
If the motor was in good running condition beforehand i doubt anything will be wrong with it.
If it is a high KM motor pay particular attention to the condition of valve stems and valve guides. Otherwise if its not a forged blueprinted rebuild then thats generally all they need.
I wouldnt even bother trying to balance the standard rods as they are normally ace anyway.
Thanks guys, sounds good. Now to find a reputable machine shop.
Some things im curious about are; crack testing parts, is that worth doing while its apart? ...What is commonly tested? the crank and block??
What about decking the head or block, should i have them checked out or do you just assume they are sweet if the engine was trouble-free prior to teardown?
I havent seen the engine running but I trust the seller when he said it was. I guess i just want to make sure the integrity is there and that everything is square and true.
Once its back from the machine shop I plan to put an OEM rebuild kit through it (perhaps with ACL race bearings) and screw it together with ARP fasteners.
Cheers again

Go and see Dave at AK cylinder heads he will probably cost a bit but he does an awesome job.
Assuming the engine was %100 healthy and not detonated etc prior i wouldnt bother with crack testing period. But rods/ crank are usually the first to get tested. Generally speaking tho crack testing anything in a JZ is being over cautious.
Due to the fact that JZ's came with MHG standard the factory surface finish of the head and block is satisfactory for any aftermarket MHG. That is providing the surfaces are prepped in a non abrasive/ harsh manner. For peace of mind sometimes its just better to get them decked tho, its not that expensive.
