    Default Pulley Fabricators(now with pic)

Hey all my quest to have gilmer drive pulleys on the Celica has come to the conclusion I need to have the pulleys made from scratch..Unfortunately the price of having this done ranges from 300-1200 bucks and in the quest for somthing unique 1k is getting a bit rich..

So if anyone knows of a good pully fabricator or fabricator who is willing to do them please let me know.

    Thanks in advance

    Nath,

Can't help with a fabricator, but I have purchased gilmer drive pulleys from Motor Improvements in Melbourne before. They do have a limited range but it depends on the sizes you need. A 19 tooth was about $80 from memory. (Motor Improvements 7 Brighton Rd St Kilda 3182 (03) 9534 8007 (03) 9534 8008)

I found some pulleys through the local bearing supplier (CBC) here in Canberra, but you need to be specific about what you want (i.e. number of teeth and width of belt) and you have to get someone who is willing to make a couple of phone calls and go through a few unusual suppliers catalogs to find stuff. There is a very large range of stuff out there, just not much available online.

Which belt are you looking at replacing with a gilmer drive?

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Its all 3,
    water pump(104mm)
    Crank(200mm)
Alternator currently 70mm but will be going to to ford 85amp one which im not sure of..

Your right about not many people willing to help, all the places I called wouldnt even measure them on the shelf for me,pissed me right off,and also most wont deal with me after finding out its for a Celica as they abviously only like V8's,fucking homo's!!

Anyway thats a good help plus repzor for you ,I will give them a call tomorrow, only problem apart from getting the pulley size is the offset and then bolt pattern..one day...one day

You'll find that most of them will want number of teeth to determine diameter, but they should be able to measure what they have on the shelf for you.

Thanks for the rep... and good luck

    Cheers,
    Dave

What kind of pulleys are those? "V", "poly-V", toothed? I had one double V pulley made in aluminium from scratch and cost less than U$S20 here (Argentina). Any mechanical shop can do that.

    Square tooth,

that looks really good,at that price its probably cheaper for me to send you over my pulleys and get them made up over there

Hey, i'm hella keen for one of these. I've been searching around and the ones for 13b's and chevy's are around the 300-400 mark. Theres a few places round that seem to make vee drive belts and power transmission stuff for industrial applications but i'm sure youd have to go and talk to someone for some answers. Will do some more research and see what i can dig up. Would a place that cuts gears be able to make something up or would that be ot of their league?

New info: some sites to check out

    - Theyve got a section that you can buy off the shelf ones and they have all sizes and widths by the looks of things. it seems like the best place to look right here, i'd just find a suitable belt first then get pulley ratios right and match some of these pulleys up. Just as long as they can be mated to both the harmonic balancer, water pump and alternator.

Well after a bit more searching I have finally found 2 Companies that not only asked the right questions but are willing to quote up some pulleys for me Thanks Dave they were referals from M.I in St Kilda..

I m sending down my pulleys to Diecrest Engineering In Harcourt Vic to size up and get a quote,im sure there must be places in Syd but atleast this bloke spoke my language and understood the application. If the price isnt right there, there is Gearcutting in Dandenong. But they wanted a fax drawing of them so I will see how this old fello goes.

If anyone else is genuinly interested let me know and when he starts talking price, I will try and get the best deal by offering him more work and saving all of us some dosh.

    Cheers,

I didnt call anyone from there im sorry man.Im sure there are absolutely heaps of places that can do them, freeking heaps..Its getting them bothered to do it,especially seeing most of the industrial places do them by the 10's plus and for alot more money that will leave them with a mold to do similar aplications..This one off aspect is the killer The guy in Harcourt sounds like a bloke who's in his 60's with a little fabrication joint. He thought it was a great idea to bung them on the ricie and reminised about seeing them in the 70's hahah...As I said, my type of language

Yes, but a lot of the work in making timing belt pulleys is ensuring that the timing belt doesnt get out of sync. Wheras for a Gilmer drive ancillary system you have no such issues as tthere is no timing on the ancillaries.
