    Default 3TG water heater line

I have a 3tg engine in my race car and i just run some hose from the front of the head where the thermostat housing is to the rear which is the heater return line port. As i don't run a heater anymore.

I was wondering if i can just block of these ports and get ride of the hose? or does water need to run through the head for cooling or something???

    Stouty,

I belive the connections that you talk about run the heater and then back into the block/water pump before the thermostate (bypass hose) therfore provide circulation of fluid around the block and from back to front.

therotically it should be able to be blocked off as the heater valve block it most of the time in summer, and I have run it blocked of on my 3tgte race car, and it did over heat with 3 core aluminum radiator everything else new. Once I connected this back up it has significantly improved but I also had a lot of oil on my fanbelt due to too much oil pressure and turbo banjos not sealing, this could have resulted in the fan belt slipping and water pump not moving.

So in summary getting the heat from the back of the engine to the front is a good thing (particullary in a race car where good cooling is absouletly neccessary), may have helped solved my cooling problems but I was doing so much at once it hard to tell. Simple to put it in I belive I am using NPT fittings

Thanks for the advice anyone else ever blocked them off?

As you say might just try it and see how it goes only interested in doing it to try neaten up the engine bay a bit.

I would keep the cooling flow from the back of the head to the water pump. No. 4 cylinder gets the hottest in 2TG's (its furthest from the waterpump). Makes sense to bypass the heater.

Run a section of metal pipe if your non factory hose is getting singed on the exhaust.

    stouty,

my post may have not been exactly clear, it is easy to install a pipe between the head and the water pump so I suggest that it goes in. if you want it to look neat, simons ta22 celica below has a neat solution.

my reasons are the same as 71ta22 and you need every thing you can get wheen it comes to race car cooling or cooling on the track.

heat at the back leads to running number 4 lean, running lean leads to more heat.
