Hi,
check this thread out

He did it without the cutouts and seemed to be ok but did mention that he was going to pull it apart when he got the right gasket and cut out the bits.

Hi,
I'm guessing it allows a more direct path for fuel from the injector to the valves.

It just allows a smoother flow of fuel from your injector into your port. Normally the port face is slightly in the way of your injector spray.

hey fellas new here just wanted to ask i was thinking of buildin a rg turbo, as i all ready have a 18r turbo and i just wanted to know wat can i use from the 18r setup to use on the 18rg such as the manifold like is it possable to cut the inlet from the exhaust plus i am running forge so can i run a 18r bottom end on a rgeu head.
Hi,
Most of the stuff will be fairly useless. The manifolds are different. 18rg is crossflow head with fairly even port spacing. Different shaped combustion chamber so pistons won't be useful either. It's covered a fair bit on this forum and probably in this thread too about 18r-18rg "conversions" but you really are heaps better off getting an 18rg and building it up off that. Pretty much all i can think that you would use is the block, crank, rods, and maybe ignition - even got a different timing cover plate nd pump drive shaft!!! Because you can get efi for them you would probably be changing a fair bit of the igntion anyway as efi turbo will be alot better than suck/blow through carbi.

Like Roadkill said, dump the whole setup and start again. Keep an eye on my RA28 thread (linked in my sig) as I am detailing the build along the way... when I get time I will do an update. Manifolds are useless, turbo will probably be so old tech that it isn't viable and is easier to get a T28 from an SR20, EFI is available and should be used, ignition can be controlled from any decent aftermarket ECU, so the existing setup probably isn't worthwhile.
I suggest to build an 18R-GUE into an 18R-GTE, have it all ready to install, then do your swap, and sell the 18R-T as a complete setup, this will minimise your downtime and losses.
Good luck with the build, let us know how your plans go.
Cheers, Owen

Just thought I'd give an update on the TRD oil pump conversions (I got a PM on it). The project is not dead, just unconcious. As I mentioned before, my engineer is running our production now and working 10-11 hour days, so my little side project isn't a priority for him. You know the drill, lost my job, dog's pregnant, cat needs a hysterectomy, wife left me.........
That said, we are going to try to get the drawing done today or Friday. From that, Ben can check it dynamically for interference. I could use some assistance in determining tolerances. Once we have that, I'll send it out for quotes for 25/50/100 sets. If anyone wants to get quotes on your side of the pond, feel free.
I did take the parts (last winter) to a wire EDM outfit and he thought it would be $200 for each part : O. I'm thinking with the economy the way it is, these place may be a little hungrier for business and we may be able to get closer to $100 for the set (I hope!). A lot hinges on quantities and tolerances.
If you look at the intake manifold, it has little notches at the top for the injectors to spray in. It make the port kind of pear shaped rather than round. The standard ports and gasket are round. I think it was Witzl who found the injectors clear fine using a standard gasket, but I would bet the air flow would get disrupted with a standard gasket and non EFI head.Originally Posted by zuludan
Does anyone know if the 88270 head has "pear" shaped intake ports? I'm having my engine builder match the ports on my 88253 head to the EFI manifold and make a gasket (if I can't source one).
Yes, the 88270 head has the pear shaped intake ports. AFAIK this is the only head that has them. The pear shaped path is very short though, the cutouts are about 45 degrees angled down. It looks like 5 minutes with a 5mm dia round file would do the job on any other head.Originally Posted by MnToyGuy

You can still get the proper 18R-GUE intake manifold gaskets with the reliefs stamped into them also.

Pretty sure an acl vrs kit has the injecter relief intake manifold gasket
Yes they do, as do the ones the SW motorsports sell. I think SW sell the gaskets individually too.Originally Posted by hosking1991

Is the 18RGEU TB sommon to any other engine? Is the 22RE one compatible with the RGEU plenum?
Here's my motor prepped for turbo
Hey guy just wondering if Anyone has run straight LPG with turbo? No injection needed, no carbies needed and it does have high octane rating. What do ya's think??
I know it's been done on 3t single cam with great results.
