Karl's rods are custom made.
Hey karl were your crower rods off the shelf or were they specially made for your application?
Just curious.

Karl's rods are custom made.
YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.
my rods are custom forged from awesome.
...... butt scratcher?!
^ that is amazing! There is so much awesome that it borders on unbelievable.

He didn't originally have the housing, so he stopped by to pick that up. He will check tolerances and function, then install the shaft and we'll test it with a drill and bucket of oil over a weekend to see if anything binds up or excessive wear.
We didn't check hardness of the original parts and this is made of some standard, semi soft steel. Given it's in an AL housing and the scores on the original parts, his theory is that you want softness in case a metal shaving or something gets in there. It would move through rather than lock up the rotor, doing all sorts of nasty gear stripping and kill the motor.
Any thoughts??
From using a file to remove filings on an original toyota pump, I am pretty sure that the standard pumps are hardened to some degree. A file doesn't do much damage to them.
I'd be looking for a similar material to the standard pump and the same clearances/tolerances too.
I think if it's worth doing, it's worth getting it right so that they are reliable.
That said, it is great that someone is going to the effort of actually making this happen.

dont forget - the tolerances are in the "green book"

Good info on the hardness, and exactly why I posted here. We'll run a Rockwell hardness test and match it up.
Witzl, the first thing I did was give him a copy of the page from the green book![]()
You may find that being a wearing surface it is carburized or case hardened rather than heat treated.
Good work by the way.
Gold 28. Yes, that is quite possible, I hadn't thought of that.

hi all
just bought a suck though carby turbo set up with T04 for $180 to fit single cam 18r in my hilux while i build up an 18rg
just wanted to know everyones thoughts on the size... think it might be just a little on the big side
will be going on completely standard motor that im not overly concerned about, will be intrested to see how long it will last!!!!
TO4 comes in lots of sizes but yes it probably is a bit big for a 2L engine, especially one that doesn't like to rev much. I'd be hunting around for a cheap WRX or S13 turbo instead.
