Dont forget you will need to change the rear flange plate on your tailshaft to the new hilux one.
The uni's should be the same diameter anyway so it should be a straight swap.

can you not just bolt the diff flange from the RN85/90 to the nose of the KUN26R diff centre?

No it wont work its a different seal diameter unless you change the seal which we couldnt be bothered so we just changed the rear uni flange

Yeah its the centre only Mick, so will need to be put into a pumpkin. Has done literally 14km, went straight to ARB for a locker fitment so is brand new. After around the $350 mark.

Regarding the ratio's, you can buy brand new crownwheel and pinion stuff from 4x4 suppliers, such as Terrain Tamer and a few others. Gives a bit of freedom to select ratio's, providing you know what you're after. If i recall correctly, a crownwheel/pinion set is around the $500 mark...

The other consideration is that Toyota LSD's are fairly average after a few km as the clutch packs wear out. I wouldnt be banking on whacking a 200,000km wrecker diff in and leaving number 11's on the road..... more often than not will be a dirty big number 1!

Any suggestion for what wreckers ask those kinds of prices? I called a couple of 4WD wreckers today in Sydney and they wanted $650 for an open centre.

Sure, the guy at the Minden 4WD wreckers (about 1hr west of Brisbane) quoted me on the LSD 3.583 about 6 months ago, but I thought it was too much It was still in the vehicle at the time. I'm going past there on Friday if you want me to stop in and check if its still there and what price..

Maybe the "phone" price is inflated ... or maybe the Sydney metro wreckers are more expensive compared to regional QLD where it is Toyota 4WD country.

$650 sounds so exxy for an open centre What are they asking for LSD?? $800?? Cripes, I might sell mine and use the profits to pay for the engine conversion

EDIT: Actually -=Lance=- (Richard) lives not far from there, and I know he has a good relationship with the guys at the Minden from his Hilux days before being a traitor and buying a rotary.. maybe he can wrangle a better price?

Just an update on this, 1 or 2 weeks turned into 1 or 2 months, you know how it goes.

All bolted in fine with the noted (as above) exception of the front flange which I redrilled to suit the RN85/RN90 tailshaft. The tailshaft has a concentric locating ring on it anyway, so you can't really go wrong there unless you are hamfisted with marking and drilling.

The diff was a bit noisy, so unfortunately had to put a bearing kit through it in the end.

Otherwise no dramas at all... and no embarrasing 1WD slithers at the traffic lights any more
