apparently you can use the blacktop 20v wiring and ecu and add COP and it all works - read this site for more info...

I havent done it so cant guarentee any of it works, but looks promising...![]()
i've seen a couple of rwd 20v's with no dizzy (turned ally cap on the dizzy), and coilpacks being run on 'stock ecu's'
just wondering if someone can shed some light on this... are there DLI converters that people use? or is it a custom one off that someone has made?
i'm not all that clued up with electrical componants... so be gentle

bit of a side question..
does the S/T dizzy work with the B/T ecu??
Dizzy's are the same. Both are fully sequential - so you can run the "double wasted spark" without detonation on either a ST or a BT ecu.

cheers for the links! pretty much answered all my questions now![]()
I made a little modchip ages ago 2006 I think for my AE101 ECU to allow it to run DLI using two toyota igniters and Mitsi 4G63 wastespark coils as I didnt want to cut the firewall on my KE70
Basically it's a litte microprocessor that picks up the G1/G2/NE signals from ECU and creates a IGTa and IGTb signal to drive the two igniters.
A pic of my old setup when I was developing/testing it out, had a sweet cordless drill to spin the dizzy
My KE70 is still running initial prototype which was made without a PCB just a mess of SMD components and some epoxy
I have a couple AE111 4AGE's planning to put one in my KE30 soon so I will revisit this project soon and make up a PCB for it.
Since COP plugs are getting easier to get now would be easy to run this setup just to tie two COP IGT's together so they would act as wastespark save me having to add additional outputs.

This is Bollocks!
Rex just had a quick read of those two threads and it almost seems to good to be true.
So if He understands correctly all four coils fire at the same time but it works on the 20V simply because its sequentially injected...
Seems to be one of those slightly dodgy things that just works.

I know someone who has tried this and as bizarre as it is it did work in a basic test. It comes down to the fact that there is no ignition even when there is fuel and a spark due to a lack of compression on the intake stroke
btw I agree as per above and would not recommend running all coils off a single ignition trigger (IGT) source.

why is that? afraid of sucking too much out of the ECU?
yeah all coil packs of same signal is a bad idea, it would work all day everyday no problems but you would loose power at high RPM if you look into how a coil pack works they need time to build up their pulse so on a normal coil over plug setup where each coil only fires near the top of its cylinders compression stroke it then has the time it takes for the next 3 cylinders to fire to build up its pulse where if you run all 4 coils off one signal (waste spark system) they fire all at the same time so all are firing on every stroke of the engine giving them a lot less time to build up their pulse. if you put your car on an ossciloscope and watch the firing spark voltage of a wasted spark and non wasted spark systems you will see a big difference
