I've got an F series front diff from my IFS Toyota Surf. Currently giving it a rebuild and installing an auto locker.
I've stripped it down and found a bit of play - the side gear when its mounted into the carrier has maybe 0.5-1mm of lateral movement. This is the same if I use the side gear from my auto locker - See the attached image. Same sort of play on both sides of the carrier, using both side gears.
I've got an F series centre from an MX13 to compare with, and the side gears sit in nice and snugly on both sides - no play. Unfortunately I cannot use this centre because IFS axles will not fit.
I'm guessing this means my carrier is worn out and no good.
Anyone can confirm? This isn't just a case of poor tolerances in an IFS Hilux/Surf/4Runner diff?
Cheers,
Ryan
