Default 3S beams to AE86 conversion

Hey im helping a mate do a 3S Altezza motor to AE86 conversion and looking around for some info or if anyone else has done it here before.

Basic things like engine mounts, gearbox mounts (6 speed) and sump.

Were looking at a dry sump setup or whatever is easier and will work.

Any info or direction of were to look will be much appreciated.

    Cheers,mark

Keep the factory Altezza alloy mounts. I used Holden V8 Adventura rubber mounts and made my own pedastal to sit them on, once I'd removed the factory steel mount from the engine crossmember. If you keep the wet sump, remove the webbing along the back to sit the engine lower, and pay some attention to the final height - you may need to space the crossmember down to clear the bonnet. Fab up a gearbox mount to suit, and you're part way there!

Thanks for the info, mounting and sump was our main concern but all this helps. Were also trying to make a R154 fit if we can because the motor it getting turbocharged and should be making decent amount of power.

We already have a 3SGTE block fully built forgies, rods ect but not sure if they would be the same block because of the VVT-i and thought using an Altezza front cut may make it easier. So we may have to build the Beams motor to suit the turbo.

The blocks are the same, but different! Use the BEAMS block - it will have more mounting options.

Yeah dry sump is the option because of the power my mate wants to get out of it.Its getting built for drift.

sounds like a lot of effort for a drift bus. SR would have done the job

buddy parts in SA was working on conversion mounts for 3s (spcifically beams) > ae86

also maybe take a look at the beau yates (TRD) old bus, that had a turbo beams.

1st gen 3SGE blocks have an easy option for engine mounts and can get from toyota new I believe, 1S or 2S RWD Engine mounts from corona out there I believe?? Oil pan from that will help with upright positioning. Beams has a two piece oil pan, but remember oil drains on 3SGTE are only on one side of the block, oil will pool in the head, I did this swap in an 86 and hap oil starvation while drifting (burnt two motors). If you use Hilux(Tacoma out here) 5VZ Manual bellhousing, that will bolt the 3S to the R sereies box I believe, please correct me if im wrong, but VZ and MZ motors use same bellhousing, same a 5S and 3S pattern ask the SW20 guys.

2s mounts do not work that great with beams in an 86 environment, it sits the engine very forward.

i believe elsewhere the vz bell was shown to work with the r box, but needs a spacer to compensate for the input shaft length.

3y bell and w box is easy enough.

custom mounts on crossmember seemed the easiest to me.
