seeing as it already as the S-mounts and such would it not be easier just to throw a 3S in there?
Each to their own in how that wish to treat their car, but it just seemed like a no-brainer to me.

yer ive thought about that, but the price factor thats all, i can get an sr20 alot cheaper than a 3s, dnt get me wrong i would love a 3sgte
the cost of a conversion much more then the cost of an engine... you have to think about all the fabrication work that is needed to get the engine to sit in the chassis correctly. In the end you will probably find the overall cost difference of the 2 different engine conversions to be negligable...
Also factor in swapping in an F series diff out of an RA65, because the T series isn't likely to last very long behind an SR20.
Some of the things that would also need attention:
- Engine/gearbox mounts
- Possible sump modifications to clear crossmember
- Tailshaft
- Exhaust
- Fuel tank and fuel pump
- Transmission tunnel modifications to account for the different shifter positions
- Wiring
Then add to that any other minor issues that pop up. Also, if you haven't already done so, adequate suspension upgrades are probably not a bad idea. Standard brakes aren't too bad, but if you intend to be braking hard a lot, then an upgrade there is probably also warranted.
By all means though, go for it. It'd make for a nicer driving car than the 2S and still be a lot more individual than the multitude of Silvias and Skylines getting around. Just be aware of all the other bits and pieces that need to be modified to get everything running. Do as much research by yourself as you can and ask for help with more specific questions when the need arises.
$2000 for a complete Beams 3S swap these days - $3000 if you want the 6 speed. Spewing they weren't that cheap when I started my Gen2 conversion. No offense intended but you'd be nuts not to do an S conversion when the motor will just bolt in. Getting everything right is a big job and toyota has already done everything for you.
SR20 a workhorse unit. if you would want to do anything competitive then the SR would probably be the better option. Id probably go for a 3S though. forget about gen gen 1/2 na 3S waste of time (unless you only want a shitter daily driver), either a beams 3s or gte.
but to answer your question, would be much like the conversion into a ke70 etc except you have more room.
Hey mate I'm looking to do the exact same conversion, altho I'm aiming to mount the motor back as far as I can, in a perfect world the whole thing will be behind it, I'm planning on using an s13 x member suspension and steering up the front
how different are the cross members on the AE86 compared to the SA63? As far as i was told the SR20's vertually bolt into the AE86. Could you use the AE86 X-member in your SA63 with minimal mods?
inside of me is screaming out beams though... but each to their own

Hye mate.
I have done the sr20 with 5 speed convertion into a ra28.
One of the bellhousing mobs do a sr20 to w58( i think) kit.
I would have done the 3s conv. too but the costs of the engine was as much as the motor/gbox combo i brought.
I can get you a sr20det redtop with 5 speed, clutch wiring loom and comp. About $2600
Well thats my thought and pictures at
