    Default 3mge?

hey all, i understand this may be a stupid question, but alas i do not know so please bear with my noobness

the 2000GT had a twin-cam varient of the crowns 3M am i right?
what i want to know is, the availability of the 3m twincam, whether it came in another model car at any point, or was this a 2000gt exclusive engine? if it is then i guess that answers availability.
if anyone could fill in the holes in this itd be HUGELY appreciated!! thanks

stolen from wiki lol. think this answers your Q

Another 2.0 L (1988 cc) inline 6 engine, the 2-valve DOHC 3M, was produced from 1966 through 1971. This special engine shared the original M's block but featured an aluminum sump, a special Yamaha-designed aluminum head with wide 79° valves and a hemispherical shape. It powered the Yamaha/Toyota 2000GT, which 'Import Tuner' magazine has described as "the first true original Japanese supercar".[1] Output was 150 bhp (112 kW) at 6600 rpm and 18.0 kg·m (177 N·m; 130 lb·ft) at 5000 rpm.[2]

    Applications:

    Toyota 2000GT
    1983 Toyota Celica Supra

Actually just called a 3M. Only in 2000GT. Given that less than 400 cars were made (over 40 years ago), I'd dare say engine availability would be limited (they're not stacked 10 high at the wreckers). Toysport claimed to have one years ago listed on their site about 10 years ago for 15K USD.

Yeah unless you have a 2000GT there is SFA reason to use a 3M.

Though it would be cool to have one

15K buys a lot of engine rather than some wheezy old 2 litre.

Yep I reckon you could get a 1GZ-FE into an MS51 for about $15K.

yeah there actually was a 1gz-fe on yahoo auctions right around the same time that i was buying my 2j. i was seeing if i could pull together the extra funds to nab it and send back with the 2j.... but didnt happen.

i must say that the idea of a v12 is kinda nuts. im trying to sort a few legalities with the 2j conversion. id hate to even submit any kind of plans for that thing. i think they would just send me back my application with big red letters 'HAHAHA'.

actually just looking on wiki, that 3m must have been a super advance motor for its time!! looking at a more modern comparison, the N/a 1GGE makes roughly the same power (150HP). considering its still a performance orientated motor with 4 valve per cyl, EFi etc. kinda makes you think that toyota had a bit of a go at it in the 60's!!!

The 3M isn't that amazing when you compare it to Nissan/Datsun's S20 (ie the first GTR engine) - also 2.0L straight six from the late 60s/early 70s, 160HP, DOHC 4-valve (compared to 2-valve for the 3M), triple carbies or mechanical fuel injection, race versions of the MFIs supposedly putting out upwards of 225HP

hhmm perhaps so. 3m had tripple carbs yes? 4 valves per cylinder it quite a big advantage so its a wonder it didnt make more power.

I had considered builting a 1GGE with ITBs, but the expected results aren't in line with the effort required to make it happen...

My suggestion is to go and build a nice 18RG, then fall in love with what ever sound it makes...

your right. the 18RG i have at the moment is a Gem of an engine, and makes a great noise, its always nice to think outside the square...as you said the effort it would require would be not worth it for the end result

a ITB 1GGE would be mad though, rocky Auto in japan built an ITB N/A RB26 KPGC110.

this was a long turm goal of mine...

a much better option i figured was a 2JZGE as a base. already has respectable power standard. just needs some breathing mods (cams, ITBS, extractors)
