hi folks,
any thoughts on what might be causing this behaviour? (is a car a friend is working on).
Car is a personal import Prado with 1KZ-TE (earlier non common-rail type). Had turbo replaced with like-for-like non-OEM.
After getting it back together it started to show boost-cut-like behaviour - would go on/off/on/off power if you drove it under load or floored it on the highway.
Put boost gauge on it and it showed it cycling from 1.0 to 0.8 bar and matching the boost-cut-like-behaviour of the motor. Connected T1 to E1 in the diag port and it showed a code 13 (no rpm signal after starting and rpm >600rpm) but after cabling was checked around the fuel pump and the EF-D fuse then pulled to clear the error code, it idled OK and showed no error codes showing with motor on or off.
But... he hops into the car with T1-E1 link still in place and goes for a drive. Turbo wont door more than 0.4bar and feels very under-power. No error codes show.
I think it showed the same driving behaviour after removing the link (at this point the phone started to drop out).
Would that poor behaviour just be the ECU acting in limp mode? and does this motor have to do any 'learning' to set up any fuel trim after an ECU reset?
ta,
Charles.

tried disconnecting the battery for 10mins or so..?
dave: not sure, was only helping over the phone after briefly seeing the car in the workshop the night before. definately 1KZ-TE, auto, diag port in engine bay
pandaah: pulling the EF-D fuse was how we cleared the error. Will ask him if he also tried the battery disconnect.
Square looking 70 series or rounder 90 series.
