larger rotational mass will help turbo spool as it loads up the engine.
Just a quick question. I'm in the process of changing my clutch and i'm getting the flywheel machined. just wondering it it's recommended to lighten the flywheel at the same time taking into account it's a turbo. A 1g-gte in an RA28 to be precise. I know about the pro's and con's for an N/A motor but not turob.
thanks

DO NOT lighten the factory flywheel if you enjoy your legs.
If you want a lightened flywheel, have one machined up out of billet. Don't hack a stock one.

you mean it makes the engine slower and it is harder for the engine to pick up revs... so this extra time allows the turbo to spool ?Originally Posted by -==L=a=N=c=E==-
you are correct, but it seems a bit arse about.. make engine slower and car inertia heavier to make it faster?
echo legs idea..... legs are good.. shattering stock flywheels are not good.
aftermarket flywheels are not that expensive. legs are very hard to replace![]()

I dunno, Ed was interested in prosthetics for a while, I'm sure he could jury-rig something up for us
so lighter flywheel on a turbo = good.
Thanks for the info guys.
Light is good, but not with standard. there a thousands of lightened standard ones running around that have worked fine, but i wouldnt recommend it. the diffrence you make lightening a stock cast flywheel isnt much and you legs are worth more than a good aftermarket one thats around the $450 or so mark.
make sure you machine the flywheel surface and for the cheap cost of new bolts, i always use new ones.
p.s high temp{copper anti seize} lube on fork ball and change throwout bearing. dont touch rear main seal unless its leaking as sometimes if its not done properly you will have changed a non leaking one for a leaking one!lol
