Default VVTI 1J soarer into non VVTI soarer

Hi guys, my current 1J in my 91 soarer is starting show signs of CBF, It has 280xxx worth of thrashing from the old owner and it wont be long till the engine lets go. It currently has leaks all over the place, inside the cam covers show that the engine has done more then 350xxxkms and its starting to blow smoke and use oil.

I was thinking of converting it to a 2J but it wouldnt be legal which sucks. Im thinking of converting it to a 1JZ (VVTI)

Has anyone done this before? Is it hard to do wirring? If anyone has done this before, please fill me in with details as it will be very helpful to me.

    Why wouldn't a 2JZ be legal?

1JZ VVt is not really an upgrade in my view, either replace it with a 2JZ or just buy another old 1JZ, they are dirt cheap now.

To more accurately answer your question, VVT wiring is completely different to old 1J wiring and if it's auto the trans and trans control is also completely different.

It's not legal becuase basicly SA rules are stupid, how much stuffing around with wirring would be required?
