i tried that once - and got zapped by the lead.

just loosen all the leads on the plugs - they'll happily arc over a short gap that's enclosed by the rubber boot. Then move one at a time with the longest/insulated thing within reach.

Another test is to pull the plug lead to each cylinder one by one while it's idling to see if it makes a difference to the running. That's a fairly easy way it identify a cylinder that's not doing it's job.

We pulled every lead and every injector and they all seemed to make a difference in making the thing run even worse than it actually was.

There was no one plug or injector that made no difference when removed.

#2 and #5 injectors when disconnected *seemed* to smooth it out and raise the idle speed.
Nothing else we did really made a noticable difference.

Idle is not smooth, and appears to be running on probably 4 cyls.

There is always 'a good floggin' to be given, however the smell of fuel given the amounts not burning was the worrying factor

im guessing you have no wideband O2 sensor/gauge to confirm this do you?

anyway, we can chin wag about it later tonight.
