on a stock car you wont realise the full benefits unless it's turbo and can change boost levels depending on the fuel. its a bit hard to change your static compression ratio on the move the only thing you would be able to do on an n/a car is run more timing advance.

Any half decent flex fuel vehicle will have a flex fuel sensor which identifies the fuel to some degree and adjusts the maps accordingly.

The price of e-85 is about 99cents per litre. There are not much true e-85 pumps in Melbourne except for 1(hoppers crossing). The engine and fuel lines needs to be design for the fuel. I've been looking of a sensor which is able to switch maps in the ecu by the amount of alcohol in the system.

pro efi has a "flex fuel" feature that adjusts fuel and timing on the fly depending on the ethonol content in your fuel tank. obviously uses an in tank sensor, pretty impressive stuff especially with the cool little gauge on your dash...

heres a vid for it ...pity the acting for advertisement and dialogue is cheesy as :S "oh man, im really low on gas and the only fuel station around sells premium - lucky we're running a pro efi!" lol

Vipec ECUs support an ethanol sensor and changing map settings when it's present.

FYI, the biofuel E85 that will be made in australia in conjunction with the release of the new holden commodores (caltex and GMH doing it jointly to get it up and running ) will be made from byproducts of waste . The starch that is leftover in the production of our wheat normally goes to landfill will be one of the products used. Also the leftovers from sugarcane production wastes that normally go to landfill and cattle feed will also be used . together they are working on ways to convert normal garbage to biofuel as well (60 mpg on old nappies)

Aussie biofuel will not be using food production to make E85 , unlike the americans where they subsidise their farmers corn in the food for fuel problems they are having over their.

We will also not be importing any fuel from elswhere in the e85 format . IT WILL be all AUSSIE made

so go out and buy a new commodore 3litre V6 or the V8 with active fuel management as they will both be able to run this as standard or any mix of fuel from normal unleaded to full e85.

How do I know this ? I work there

    righteyooooooo then

anywho, the fact that they are using biowaste to make the ethanol is good, but when I was at uni, this process wasnt really viable (due to the energy involved in getting rid of the lignin or someshit).... has a more efficient process been devised since then? Or has it been made artificially viable due to grants etc?

Once they start advertising I'm sure the media will rip into it if they are

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

buy using materials from the earth to make food, like wheat etc.. we can make fuel also.. that is bad is it? i'm failing to understand tha logic behind your posts 'why bother' and 'this Bio fuel is destroying the planet'

the pure fact that it is a heading towards renewable fuels is infact saving the planet.. we all know that the oil isn't going to last forever..

would you care to please elaborate?

anyway, that is way off topic, mods feel free to remove this post if you feel it is against policy.

hey discussion is good , personally I am not sure what sauce is on about or ON for that matter.

Unfortunately we will have to go the full gamet of all the different types of fuels on the road to the biggie (hydrogen cells)

They actually have a fleet of them in USA from memory but the infrasrtucture for filling with such a volatile gas is very expencive

    so the order is

Biofuel/ deisel/hybrids/pure electric/ hydrogen-electric/ hydrogen then eventually H3 hydrogen , when we move of this dead planet

Personally I dont like electric until we can build a battery that isnt so carbon unfreindly to build .

You could drive your old celica till the end of next century and still not make the same carbon print that building and driving a prius will make and use

My point is that the Earth has all the oil and fuel it needs. The constant rhyming on about oil running out and coal is absolute rubbish. Someone mentioned the fact that oilseed rape was being grown at the expense of food crops.Try telling starving people around the world that its better "feeling good about ourselves and going green and saving the planet etc" instead of Eating. The bible text is God's answer to silly people who think that we are going to run out of what he has provided. Why cant they try and help human beings first instead of messing about so much with red herrings. Remember these are the dudes who thinks our granda was an ape.The World only has a certain time anyway but thats a different subject if anyone is interested. America realised fuel crops are causing problems. Also there didn't seem to be any shortage of oil coming out of their well recently that blew up.Biofuel is pointless. This genesis verse simply is GOD simply saying." I control everything and I am in charge. The climate is in my hands, not yours.
