Are you using a Big port small port or 20v Head?
I am after some advice on a cylinder head build.
I am building this engine for occasional STREET and occasional weekend DRAG use only.
I have had the bottom end fitted with Spool Rods, Wiesco Pistons (20 oversize),ACL bearings etc, ect and am having it blue printed to spec.
I will be running a wet system Nitrous kit for Drag only (not on street hehe), probably with around 70 jet size (as used before ) and will be using a GT30 turbo (expecting turbo to come in at approx 4000rpm) , water to air intercooler, 750cc injectors (RX7), Bosh 450bhp fuel pump, and EMS 8860 ECU
Gearbox is standard MK1 MR2 GZE E51 transmission with LSD diff.
I am about to get the cylinder head ported on inlet and exhaust and match ported for manifolds.
I have been told that I should be looking for probably 272 duration cams with 10.3 mm lift for inlet and exhaust, under bucket shim modification and up rated/high temp valves , up rated springs, titanium retainers, high temp seals and racing guides for my application.
Q1. Can you recommend if I should be looking at a different duration cam and lift especially for turbo ?
Q2. From you experience is this going to be ok for occasional street as well as drag?
(I understand idle is gunna be lumpy and high and emissions out the window)
Q3. Should I be looking for different durations and lift between inlet and exhaust for optimum performance ?
Q4. Would it be to my advantage in fitting a lower duration cam to help eliminate turbo lag on such a large turbo?
Q5. Am I correct in thinking the lift will only affect the torque ?
Q6. I have noticed i can get Black Nitride coated valves inlet +2mm and exh +2.5mm from the Atlantic set up. Is this gunna be benificial for building this high performance head ?
Still a newbie to this kinda stuff and really would appriciate some help with this build
cheers
Are you using a Big port small port or 20v Head?
Small port 16v
Your going to use a 4AGE head (I assume with a 4age or 7age) for drag racing?
I hate to break it to you but if your planning on taking it seriously you might want a larger displacement engine. Yeh sure, for street use your all good, drag is a different story.
What car is this going into?
Ye hi Foamy
Maybe i should word it better , I am looking for the optimum results from this engine and the drag is just gunna be a couple of times for a bit of fun.Rest of the time will be street but not a daily driving to and from work car.Pretty much just weekends.
The latest advice i got from the U.S is (Cat Cams) 282 / 267° Max Lift:10.50 / 9.50mm
- For turbocharged extreme street, rally & cross.
But as i am not experianced in this sort of stuff i'm not sure if this is good or bad idea.
Just don't want to have to keep buying cams cuz i have the wrong set up if you get my drift
appriciate any info
cheers
that's not going to be a street-friendly cam
