Default 1JZ VVTI automatic gearbox question

    Hey guys,
    many of you would have seen i have a jza80 with a 1jzvvti from a jzz30 soarer.

I'm using the 1jz and automatic gearbox from the soarer. i'm looking at some tiptronic style controllers, suprastick and the like.

i have found one that a guy setup for a 1UZ using a a304e gearbox... i asked the question about fitting, he replied with this.

If it has A340E on it, yes. You'll have to check
on the forums to confirm how many solenoids are
used to change gears. This box controls the two
solenoids that change gears and the third solenoid
that operates the lockup torque convertor. Gear---
    -Solenoids 1st - #1 On #2 Off 2nd - #1 On #2 On
    3rd - #1 Off #2 On 4th - #1 Off #2 Off That's the
    standard pattern.

Can someone confirm if the jzz30 auto gearbox im using has 2 or 3 solenoids?, also does that shift pattern make sense?

    Cheers Mike

shift pattern makes sense for an auto a340e in my experience... but cannot confirm any differences between yours and the ones ive played with ie if there is a difference between vvti and non vvti...

the solenoid plug is usually on the back passenger side of the gearbox and points upwards towards the trans tunnel... if it has 3 wires in theory it should work as above however if it has 4 wires it would make me think there is a 4th solenoid in it...

also not sure how it all integrates with the standard ecu (do you retain drive if you choose to use it?)

    thanks mate,
the shift pattern is new to me, im not really up to speed on how autos work inside... "D for Dream"

I will have a look at the wiring as you suggested... back under the car i go

it integrates with the standard ecu, it has a switch which allows you to turn it on and off... i.e. normal auto or "manual" from there what i can figure out is that it just sends signals to the solenoids to shift up or down.. i has some built in safety to stop over revving etc.

edit: also noticed it should have been "using 2/3 solenoids" not 3/4 solenoids.

well you will still want to use the 3rd solenoid to lock the converter once you are cruising as the standard auto will do this...

Ive wired up a few shift boxes in my time but they are very basic compared to this by the sounds of it...

    oh ok,
i looked at the wiring diagram he sent me, looks basic enough. I also checked the ECU pinout i have it has S1, S2 and SL which i assume is Solenoid 1, Solenoid 2 and Solenoid Lock up, so by the sounds of it, it should fit ok.. just gotta check the ecu pinout matches the wiring i have... as you know, it doesnt always match

yeah you would be correct assuming solenoid 1 2 and lockup...

i think i started a thread looking for solenoid pinouts on here a while back...
