Hi all,
Apparently there is a Power FC variant designed for the VVTi 1JZ. What I'm interested in finding out is what sort of a job they do of controlling said VVTi function. There isnt a lot of info on the net outside of a few brief statements saying that they can control it. No info on how well.
Anyone used one on one of these engines?

I also want to know if they are any good.
I have bought another motor with a complete harness but no ECU and was thinking about one of these to try on it.

what do you want to know about the VVTI mapping?
I can take some screenshots from the datalogit on mine. There's also some good info on VVTI PFC mapping over at newcelica.org
Have fun buying a power Fc they don't exist anymore
If in doubt power out
Any importer should be able to get one for a JZX100 etc without too much trouble, they're always on the yahoo auctions too for about 60k yen for the MT version.
Not to mention ebay. Rona, everyone knows apexi arent around anymore but there's still heaps of stock out there. Thanks for your input though

Thanks for the info. My main concern was does it control it well? It just seems a bargain unit compared to other standalones that cost 3 times as much with that capability. I'm not interested in going stupid with this engine, but a little fuel and timing control + vvti would be a nice thing when upping boostOriginally Posted by JP

yes, on my engine it seems to control it just fine, and many of the 1zz spyder guys and 2zz celica guys have had success tuning their VVTi and VVTLi with the powerfc.
ps, I'd also factor in the cost of a datalogit or Apexi laptop interface for the tuning, as using a laptop is much easier than the hand controller and you can modify the basemaps directly etc.
A toyota doc about the system is here: http://users.ameritech.net/trdcelica...xplanation.pdf
The newcelica.org thread I mentioned is here:

And a screenshot of the VVTi area of the basemap from my PFC is here:

I'd love to get the boost control kit as well, but the dude selling the power fcs wants 355 USD for the boost controller kit alone! Isnt it just a solenoid? E-boost 2 for me it looks like....

the 1J kit includes a wiring harness, solenoid and map sensor... bloody expensive kit, and no where near as functional as other Apexi EBC's like the AVCR etc.
Very well, e boost it is then. For roughly the same price it's a great bit of gear

Oh, and one more thing, is it possible to do away with the AFM with these things?
Project megap00 - Gave up and sold up. Money tree died
nope, but there have been supra/soarer guys that have tried to rewire the MAF to a MAP sensor and mess around with the airflow curves in the PFC to make it work.
The JZX100 PFC has predefined settings for replacing the factory MAF with 4 other types, including the 80mm VG30 and the 90mm VH41 nissan items.
Interesting. Thanks again. I'm sure the AFM wont prove a restriction for what I have planned, but if you look at my 7M build thrread you can see I get bored easilyOriginally Posted by JP
