    Hi,

I don't know. Some late model engines may be fine and yet others may have been abused. Getting an engine from the wreckers is a lottery. You get a good one then great, you get a bad one then tough luck. You just don't know until you put it in and try it out.

With my cars I prefer to have some assurance the engine is fine - more than fine, by having them fully rebuilt from the ground up. But hey, that's me. Each to their own.

More food for thought or fuel for the fire depending upon how you view this...

Fit a 1G-GZE supercharged 2 litre 6 cylinder engine. Excellent grunt down low, straightforward conversion. Works fine for me....

Sure, engines are being thrown around left, right and centre. Has anyone actually asked what his plans were for the car? What his power expectations are? Is he able to do some of the work or will it be done at a shop?

Those questions will give a good starting point to know what HE wants and not what YOU want.

I reckon (from the Toyota family) that a turbo'd Beams or boosted 1MZ provide the best all round performance potential. Neither is simple but neither is that hard either Even n/a they provide plenty of go and sound awesome at revs.

Outside of Toyota an F20C or F24C would be sweet but will annoy the purists

Pimpin, this is the criteria given. If the OP wants to elaborate more to filter the results, then that is still an available option. For now, the list is:
    1. A bit of power under foot
    2. Nice sound from exhaust
    3. Not enough go to pretzle the subframe of an RA28

To cover off, from experience the 18R-G provides all these when turbocharged. There is also plenty of info on here to detail how the job is done.
