Default 7mgte catch can setup, whys mine like this

I just want to know why with my breather lines, I have one coming out of the block where the distributor would slip in if it were a 5m or 7mge i suppose, it doesnt make sense to me and it breathes oil from it a fair bit, there is also a top one that goes from the rocker cover near the alternator which is what i would have thought more than addiquite , But that doesnt breath any oil from it whats so ever, Should i block this bottom one off? as ive never seen anything like it

on intake side of motor there is usually a hose connecting the cam cover and the block together. however with your motor they both had a seperate hose that went to a catch can mounted in the corner of the engine bay.

you cant really block the lower one or you will build up heaps of crank case pressure, the standard hose allows the gasses to vent into the cam covers and then into the throttle body.

why not get the catch can out of the supra? i bet it would fit snug in the same corner of the mx73 engine bay and look trick as

I plugged the hose that runs out of the block into the cam cover as per factory if i read correctly and it blew that much smoke it was rediculous out the exhaust, this was with the top breathers on the rocker covers open, anyway slipped the pipes back the way they were and it cleared it up, Im starting to wonder whether the rings are just shagged, as even if this pipe should be out of the block and not blocked off its spitting out an awful lot of oil, If this bottom one was blocked the engine should still breathe out the top 3 the small ones ontop and the big one on the side of the cam covers (in theory)
I just need to keep running it by to make sure im not going to do any damage, Nissan engines only have breathers from the cam covers and nothing out of the block which makes it suss to me

it usually blows smoke after its sat for a while, i recon the valve stem seals are near non existant, after a run down the southern outlet to hobart it blew shit loads of oil smoke, but under acceleration it was fine.
Having said that it did put a bit of oil in the catch can. so it may be breathing heavy.

Comp test and go from there, good luck.

without the big pipe going from cam cover to old dizzi hole ,the only ventilation is via the oil drain holes.

if you've got a lot of fluid going down them and you're at high revs, you'll end up with pressurised crankcase with resulting seal issues.

In the 5ME, there was also a big vent space (from sump to head) via the cam chain tunnel.

ON a 5/6MGE, you can see a connections for the breather going from old dizzi post in crankcase up to just below the oil filler hole:

The pipe that goes from the oil fill cap to the bottom of the block NEEDS to be on. Don't use either of these for a catch can.

The catch can is only for the 2 cam cover breathers behind the 3000 pipe.

if could also mean your PCV system is not working, or the baffles in the cam cover breathers are blocked up?

holy shit - that's no crankcase ventilation at all. Will be surprised if you haven't had oil pushing it's way past the front or rear seals.

Those top two breathers have to go somewhere - either to the throttle body (as per factory) or a catch-can (which for road use should vent into the intake somewhere).

if you check out the 2x big pipes out the back of the inlet side intercooler piping, thats the one from the rocker cover and block that go into a catch can currently (milo tin haha)

argh - my bad. I'd still connect the catchcan to the top breathers and see how much smog you're getting.
