    Default S13/AE71 Corolla Wagon Hybrid!!!

Hey all... A good friend and I are in a position where we have the opportunity to pick up a near complete 92' 180SX with SR20DET for $3500 and we already have an AE71 wagon so basically here it is...

We wanna look at the possibility of taking the entire rear subframe, the entire front suspension and steering system as well as the engine and the gearbox and transplanting all of it into the wagon in the hope of making a reliable track weapon...

The reason we have decided to look at this so seriously is because we have a very cheap and mechanically sound 180sx coming into our possesion at a very cheap price... Now if you think about it the S13 is a bigger car therefore must have larger components to cope with the strain of being bigger... S13 parts; performance or OEM are as cheap as chips and readily available... Not to mention the added bonuses of having rack & pinion and power steering, a cheap IRS rear end (lets dial in some camber, also cheap LSD's) plus more power potential from the engine and gearbox...

Im pretty confident in my fabrication and welding skills and my mate is a gun painter and gets into the electrical side of things so we will be undertaking 99% of the work ourselves...

Now i know ppl have done the SR20 and S13 coilover conversions but i'll be buggered with all the hours i've spent looking around if i can find any more information regarding irs conversions or the steering conversion...

Can someone please point in the direction of some info or share they're own views on the topic...
    thanks

yes. front is easy, just make the cross-member bolt up (new holes with crushtubes in the x-member) and.. well.. it's nto straightforward but not that hard.
rear will need mounting points for the subframe...

is nto realyl a conversion as you are just (adventurously) bolting entire package on....

    go for it

Lloyd Smith has stuck a s13 crossmember and full front suspension in his 1uzfe powered ae71 drift car. I do Lloyds alignments for him and I can say its a top setup. It did require the moving of the top of the strut towers slightly outward as the s13 is obviously wider, if you dont move the strut position you stuff the scrub radius (SAI). As for the rear..why not, may be a larger job as the ae71 floorpan wont match the shape of the s13 crossmember so well but yeah, go for it! Lloyds car has an equal length 4 bar setup which is pretty trick and my opinion is this is an easier and a better setup than an IRS conversion, but if you choose then do it for the pleasure as I would take some in seeing it!. Details of Lloyd car are here in this build thread..

even tho this will be difficult - there's something hilariously awesome about a shitbox wagon/van going faster than nature intended.

Find the thread on here about the 1JZ into 'rolla wagon. repeat but with 4cyl engine.
