i don't see why not, the mr2 e15 boxes came with mechanical and viscous lsd's, all use the same tranny fluid.
tho, does the 5efe motor have enough grunt to be able to break traction...??????
Ok, my brothers Sera is getting a ground up rebuild. Full respray, fully rebuilt engine, super strut brakes, interior, stereo etc.
It has an auto box (A242L) and despite my protests, it is staying auto.
I have a replacement box lined up that will be rebuilt over the next few months (in between building the 5SGZE for my Levin) and I am wondering as to the possibility of installing an LSD into the auto box.
Has it been done? Can it be done? If the stock manual gearbox LSD is a sealed viscous unit (like the E58 box etc), maybe I could use one of those? (can't use a plate style diff with auto trans fluid AFAIK).
Just thought I would throw the question out there as the box is getting rebuilt anyway......

The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.
Nah, the Sera with the auto box has the 5E-FHE.
My Levin that is getting the 5AGZE will be getting a rather beefy gearbox with something like a Quaife ATB diff.
I will be doing a little work to the engine, but if I can put an LSD in, it going to be better than not for those few times you really need it.
i don't think you will need it at all......
i highly doubt that a 'fully built' na 5E would even put out as much as a pretty tame 4age.. which doesn't need an LSD to be fun... but at least the ge's tend to run an equal length drive shaft....
does the E block have a few M8 bosses on the intake side around the 2 cylinder?? you might be able to do something with that..
i remember that being a bit of a pet hate with the 4efte starlet i had.. it torque steered to no end... but a 250fwhp 3sgte in an ST162 (euqal length shafts) hardley pulls at all side to side..
just for sh!ts sake, have you thought about just putting a stock 20v in it??
with the box getting built... high stall?? shift kit?? just to make it a bit more peppy![]()
now that i think about it.. the C52 in the starlets, has a different diff ratio to the C52 in the corolla's... the corolla is a fair bit higher than the starlet.. 4.3 vs 3.7 IIRC... i wonder if the same goes for the auto boxes?? might be worth trying to pick up an auto A2 box from an AE92 rolla and dropping it off with the 5E box and when they pull them down use the higher ratio.. again.. will help it feel a bit more livley..
I would ideally like to put my GZE into the Sera once the 5AGZE is done, if the supercharger will fit, but my brother likes the economy of the 5E and isn't keen on his GF driving a hi-po vehicle.
The build has gone a little (!) over budget as is, so an engine swap isn't on the cards for a while, especially seeing as the 5E is sitting in my kitchen all freshly machined and awaiting reassembly...
I'm not sure about the bosses on the block, I'll have to check. I can't actually remember what the go was with the drivers side shaft.
I'll be building the box myself, I might look into a shift kit to firm up the shifts a little. The stock box was a little sloppy in that regard.
