Anyone?????
Howdy guys,
Anyone have any ideas why my 1J auto MX83 not going into 4th gear? It stays in 3rd all the time. Absolutely stumped about it. Even swithing over drive and the ECST switch doesn't do anything?
Any ideas what it could be not making it going into 4th gear. Want to get it fixed ASAP as its using way to much fuel
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers,
Heng

Did the car ever have overdrive or has it only stopped working?

Have you disconnected the abs? The ecu is in the boot, unplug the plugs and see if that helps.
What speed sensor are you using?
Yeah it did have overdrive with the 7m before but with the 1j it dosent work? Nah didn't disconnect the abs system does it need to be disconnect?
Using the abs sensor. everything was out of a Jzx81. Car I transferred it from was Gavs car, bungs.

Yea try disabling the abs computer in the boot.
Is your speedo working? If it is, make sure the wire for the signal output is connected to the 1j ecu. If it isn't, fix that before trying anything else.
Speedo is working fine. But RPM is not which I still haven't done the tacho booster for it.
Would it have anything to do with the overdrive switch at all?
Tried unplugging the abs and still dosent go in 4th gear.

Having no tach is fine. It might have something to do with how the 22pin plug was rewired? Pretty sure there's a OD2 which is overdrive on there.
Also, have a read of this: http://forums.toyotacressida.net/for...ad.php?t=51823 might be the same problem you're having.
Maybe this http://forums.toyotacressida.net/for...ight=overdrive
Is the od2 pin on the ecu connected correctly to the overdrive button.

Ok, i had a a read through the threads earlier today that Bungs posted. But still a bit confused with the few things.
I tryed the ABS disconnect and still dosnt go in 4th gear which i guess thats not my issue.
Now i sum it down to the over drive switch or wires not being connected where it should of been.
But i noticed that on the 22 pin ecu connecter from the 7M i have in front of me as im typing doesn't have a OD2 but on the 22 pin ecu connecter from JZX81 does have a OD2? now how do i get it working if its not on there? Would it be on grey plugs or the white plug?
I did the conversion out of a 1J Grande Cressida into another Grande Cressida so it have be all sorted already? but unsure if it did go in 4th when it was in the donated car as i couldnt really drive it. Still havn't asked the owner of it yet if it did go in 4th.
Or another thing that i can figure out is that my ECU could be stuffed which the dude on the cressy forum had issues with.

if the previous guy did the conversion he would be a great person to ask about your problem!
