    Default ebay adjustible cam pulleys

tried doing some searching but couldn't come up with much. I know you get what you pay for, I've seen those adjustible cam gears on ebay and was wondering if anybody has used them.

The 1jz in my jza70 halfcut has rusty cam gears and i want to change all the belts and pulleys at the same time. Just thought this might be a cheaper option.

Also looking at a complete set of alloy pulleys. Any comments?

these are the gears i was looking at, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CAM-GEAR-PULL...item56384b4211

you said it - "I know you get what you pay for" I personally wouldnt go near them with a 10ft clown pole. You could be fangin it down the road and gears could slip and you'd know about it. Also leave the harmonic balancer unless your getting a proper aftermarket balancer eg ross brand or something. I couldnt see it being a problem with water pump/alt/aircon pulleys causing any problems.

mate has a pair on his soarer and they work fine. they look like the red ones in the photo.

i bought fidanza ones which are a brand name and little did i know you need to tighten them up before you install them.

one slipped to full retard and the car stalled while driving. no big deal i think i limped it home and fixed it up. 1JZ's are not a interference motor so dont stress if one does slip...

I've had fidanza's on my 4ag for about 4 years with no wear to the hard anodized gear as far as I can tell.

Unless you race rally events (not many 1jz's do that) the with lots of dust etc the hard anodized outers shouldnt be a problem.

well thats reassuring. I would be wary of some of the cheaper cam gears not being hard anodised though and only made to look like they have been.

i assumed the outer ring was steel and the center was obviously alloy...? (fidanza's)

either way the only gears ive ever seen the outer ring wear and fail on are the old and now superseded hks gears...

nah the fidanza's are all alloy. i got a set for my 3s. light as a feather.

that ebay set, they look like fidanza rippoff's or they've just used them for pictures. prob cuase they were the cheapest to get initially to copy.

also they say rrp $175 for each gear, that's bull. a pair of fidanza's are only $175US sometimes cheaper.

I've been using a set on my 4AGE at around NZ$180 for the set. Replaced a locally
made set of modified OEM cam gears. Not perfect, but at a quarter the price of a set
of TODA gears, they get the job done OK. And the scale is nice and easy to read also.

    Cheers... jondee86

yeah i saw those worn hks cam gears in a thread on here.
These a set on ebay for $500 used.
I always throught that if its a g series head (3sge 3sfe) it's a interference motor. The cars not a dayly so these gears should be fine for me.

As for slipping from bolts coming loose, If a bolt is torque to proper specifications it will not come loose. Main caps and big ends are held together by bolt torque, no lock taps or thread lock. Even on the big 2000hp diesels it doesn't change. A bolt that is properly design for that application will not come loose, It's in the designer fault.

    Cheers for the info

Wrong, if the bolt is torqued to spec for that size thread, length, grade and it is in a high vibration, heat or load environment it can still come lose. That is why things like loctite, spring washers and nyloc nuts exist.

But i think what ^ is refering to is the bolts not being torqued on the cam gears out of the box...... I dont think cam gears are subject to any sort "loosening" effects, so if they are torqued right then yeah, they shouldnt come lose.

I bought some for my 3S from Ultrex Performance and they're extremely well made. They have some for the 1J also, the best bit is they're $130 for the pair. (If you wait for a set without bids like I did.)

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/2-TOYOTA-SUPR...ht_2862wt_1165

They're hard anodised billet aluminum inner, steel outer.
