Default 5ME to 6MGE Conversion Help Please

    Hello,
I know there is a lot of data on the forum about this conversion, and I've been to the online manual, and I've tested all the voltages at the back of the ECU, as per the manual, and everything checks out OK.
    Here is my problem:
There is no spark when the engine cranks, yet when I hard wired the starter, with the ignition on, there was good spark coming from the coil, and I tested there was spark at each spark plug. Therefore I feel confident that the igniter is OK, unless there is a chance these things can fail when the cranking voltage drops. My theory is that the ECU is not sending the right signal to the igniter when cranking through the ignition switch. I tested the IGf and IGt voltages while cranking and they read as per the manual.

2nd issue is the injectors don't seem to be firing, at all. Again, all voltages on the ECU pins are OK. I took the connector off the back of the ECU and measured the current through the injectors, which was 6.1 amps, which is about right. However I could not hear the injector solenoid fire, when I earthed the 10 and 20 connector. I'm not actually sure if I should be able to hear he injectors firing, On other EFI systems I've played with the injector have been quite noisy, so I assumed the 6MGE injector should at least make a "ticking" noise. Can anyone confirm the injectors should "tick" when they fire ?

The good news is the cold start injector works, and it supply's enough fuel that the engine sort of fires, after the first few cranks, if I hot start the starter. Then it just cranks and cranks.

If anyone out there is a champion on the 5/6 MGE engines, please get in contact with me, as I'm at the end of my tether.

Next option will be to pull out the injectors, and replace the igniter (even though I don't think this is the problem)

    Cheers

    Paul

As for lack of spark / injection when cranking via the IGN key, I'd check to make sure that the IGN source that you are sending to the engine ECU has power when the key is in the cranking position and the IGN position!

How long has the engine been sitting? Is it possiable that the injectors have become stuck from lack of use for a long period of time?

You should be able to hear the injectors click if you earth / un-earth #10, #20 at the ECU... repeatedly manually turning the injectors on/off like this can help to unstick them if they are stuck...

    Cheers

    Thanks Wilbo.

I've checked all the voltages while cranking with the key and even though the B+ voltage drops to 9 volts, there is still a voltage. I'll double check them again, just to be sure.

The engine has sat around for a while. It sat in my shed for at least 12months before I put it in the Supra, and who knows how long before that. The guy I bought it off assures me it was running in his Cresida before he took it out. He replaced the 6MGE with a 7MGTE.

I'm thinking an injector service might be on the cards, as I can't hear any clicking when I earth pins 10 and 20 Bugger
