Default 1uz oil starvation engine - worth keeping as spares?

So I screwed my last engine by starving it of oil.

Whilst the problem is fixed NOW, I am left with an engine that died atleast from ONE obvious failure, but who knows what else.

The main bearings died, so the crank would be scored and would the block to some degree.

Who knows what's happened to the cam shaft and consequential buckets/valves, including the pistons and cylinders...

I would only keep the engine for parts if there is anything useful on it that I might use in a later engine. EG - keeping rods just for the sake of having a set of rods isnt' really that interesting to me, as if I were to build an engine, I wouldn't use standard rods.

Is there any particular reason anyone can think of for keeping the engine? My theory is that it's potentially damaged in various degrees all over which renders it scrap.

    Confirm or Deny?

usually its the crank that dies first mate, depending on where abouts in the engine the motor starved of oil..

im rebuilding a puegeot 206 GTI at work that i got with a seized motor, although im keeping it for myself, the main bearings melted and they were thrown around the block in liquid form until it locked the crank solid..

smashed them out, scrubbing the rods and crank with hydrocloric acid and a toothbrush to rid them off melted alloy, getting the rods resized and the crank grinded.. honing the bores and new rings.. just a light line bore on the mains and thats it, itll be running by the end of the week..

    top end is fine!

like i said but, im keeping the motor for myself, if it was a customer id be forced to grind cams replace buckets etc... do the hole job

id suggest stripping it and selling it in pieces, like get the heads done, sell them as reconditioned heads etc.. theres still money to be made in that engine

These things are tough so you'd be surprised what would and wouldn't need replacing.

I have a 'dead' engine just to dummy up new mods....makes life easier.

Good for spares, even weird odd stuff you would never expect to replace.

They aren't making any more of these things and even rebuilders are getting harder to come by cheap.

easiest option since it is out is just check the crank by removing the sump. i wouldnt sell tho spare parts always come in handy
