Default replacing a clutch in a 2000 Hiace

    Hi guys,
I'm new here [even though I joined a while back, I've only just got my van registered again]

I need to replace the clutch in my Hiace.
    It's a 2000, RZH103R with a 2RZE [2.4L petrol injected, 5 speed]

I used to work on my own cars way back in the old days but haven't done anything for years. I'm looking at doing it myself because I've been quoted $650.00 to get it done, that seems a bit high to me - 3 hours labour and a couple of hundred for the kit.
    Am I wrong?

Can anyone point me to any places to get a manual or step by step instructions, or any other tips or hints?

    Any help appreciated

heres a few easy steps for ya mate..

    - jack up the car and place on 4 axle stands, unless you have a hoist handy
    - disconnect the battery (i do this just as a safety precaution)
    - get underneath and remove the tailshaft
    - remove starter motor and slave cylinder, loosen the bellhousing bolts, remove wiring
    - place a transmission jack, or normal jack under the gearbox and remove the loose bolts
    - pull the gearbox out nice and steady

hiaces are quite easy to do mate, and to be honest $650 including labour and the clutch kit, maching the flyhweel is a good price!

    Hi Pandaah,
thanks a lot for the info

I hadn't thought about machining the flywheel, so that certainly would be an extra cost. I just looked at some prices for a clutch kit on the net, and kind of figured a typical job should take a professional a few hours. [probably take me double - lol! ]

Last time I was messing around playing mechanic it was HG/HK/HT Monaros and vans etc and earlier, so I'm scratching the old memory cells!

Do you rekon the quote would have included the machining? [he didn't say]

yeh usually, wouldnt make much sense if he told you a price of $650 and said oh wait you owe me $30 more lol... but getting a flywheel machine is only worth about $20 to $40, but for a new clutch that you plan to last for a long time its a must..

but yeh usually i include that when i quote up jobs, because i always do it.. just get a mate with a crowbar rested against a bolt placed back into the bellhousing the jam the flywheel and get a breaker bar with a single hex socket and loosen her off and get her machined.. unless you got a rattle gun then its easy going!

vans are a piece of piss to get the 'box out of. definitely machine the flywheel and fit a new spigot bearing. also check the rear main while the flywheel is off.

chuckster, i've done them on the ground. they aren't hard. a pit/hoist makes them easier. if you are a strong chap, you can lift them in and out with your legs.
