ill def have to take it apart and have a look, so if there is any impella damage or shaft play etc.
it was just as i was driving home from work a couple days ago, nothing major really happened, it just started making noise.
ah.. didnt know vvti ones had AFM... gay..

depending on the damage (if any) you may be alright..

    mine was like this

and still made 20psi, didnt grind on the housing etc.. bearings were still ok etc...

i only took it off coz i scored a highflowed ct26 for cheap.. that td06 (above) didnt make 15psi until 5000rpm.. on a 7m

Something ells to check is that none of the exhaust gaskets are leaking, i.e manifold to turbo and turbo to dump. This is a very common problem on Nissan SR's and RB's. When the car is comming on boost the sound of the turbo spooling (whooosing) becomes much more apparent. As the exhaust pressure builds up on boost it allows the gasses to leak. But on idle and normal driving there is not enough pressure to make it leak so its hard to detect that its an exhaust leak.

Best way to check for this is to start the car up in the morning when the engine is cold and listen all around the turbo etc for an exhaust leak. Also check there is no black soot around the turbo etc which would be a tell tail sign of it leaking.

I have had this problem in the past and thought the turbo was on the way out. Just turned out to be a gasket and some loose bolts. Another friend also had the same problem.
