christ i hope you didnt put the whole gallon in the box! hahahahahahaha
what are you doing with the rest of the gallon!
yes im only kidding!
where's the best place to get the Redline oils from. I know several people who rave about the lightwight for the C60 gearbox and want to put some in next oil change.
google it in aus only and you will be able to find your nearest stockist .
thats what i did

yeah, I'm going to put royal purple in the engine, but heard too many good things about the Redline gear oil to say it's too expensive anymore. I'd rather pay $200 for decent oils then $10,000 for a new engine and gearbox...
haha no only about 3/4 of it before it started dripping over the plug hole..Originally Posted by kingmick

this is an interesting thread thanks guys
I have a BEAMS Torsen LSD from a ST202. I have been running Castrol VMX80 as per recommendation from the guy I bought it off.
However, the LSD has recently kinda died, lol. My oil still looks tops and it may just have been its time and it needs to be reconditions but I was wondering if there may be perhaps a better oil?
Redline's exxy when you have to drain it everytime you change a driveshaft too...

Define died. Save total cataclysmic failure, a Torsen can't just die![]()

yes, you are correctOriginally Posted by JustCallMeFrank
it doesn't like locking up and I can spin a single wheel up for ages before it engages, and it's getting worse.
How do I know it's a torsen? Because when you have it up on a stand and you spin a wheel it behaves like an open diff, but when you are (er, well I was) driving in the wet/around corners fast etc it locks up
That's right isn't it?

A viscous LSD that's losing it's LSD effect will probably behave a bit like an open diff![]()

ehehe yeah
you know when I have it on stands and I spin one wheel, the other spins the opposite direction (open diff effect)
but when I drove in the wet, launch it, whatever, it locked up
but a viscous - if you have it on stands and spin a wheel won't the other wheel rotate in the same direction?
hmm this is a bit OT sorry guys
either way, I have an lsd, which I am yet to take apart and see precisely what kind it is, and wondering if the VMX80 is cool for it. Though.. that *may* depend on the type of LSD.. :?

VMX80 is povo mineral 75/80 API GL4... use it in your mums barina or your front wheel drive stocker corolla...
Syntrax is a Synthetic GL5... comparable to the Ultra Clear Low Vis Witzl speaks of.
For the price you'll pay for 4l of the redline shockproof you could almost be getting 20ltrs of ultra clear from me
Plus a hand pump on a 20ltr drum is just soooo much easier than filling from 1ltr bottles or even worse tipping 4l bottles into 1l bottles then into the gearbox / diff.
Even when I have to pay retail I buy my stuff in 20ltrs...
20ltrs of hand cleaner
20ltrs of inox
20ltrs of degreaser
20ltrs of gearbox oil
20ltrs of engine oil
PS heres a generic list of what most gearboxes / diff's should be running:
API GL5 LS90 - Clutch type LSD's
API GL5 75W/90 or 75W/85 - Most gearboxes and hypoid differentials (i.e. open or torsen)
API GL5 85W/140 - Track cars and earthmoving machinery.
I currently use Penrite 10tenths Synthetic Gear oil SAE 75W90 which is API GL6
suited for prologed high temp usage, high load road use and also suited to limited slip and spin resistent diffs
the best part is it's 1/2 the price of redline at ~$55 for 2.5L I think
I've found it OK but want to try Redline as I've heard great things about it.
I've heard that GL5 gear oils aren't great on your synchros... GL4 gear oils are better
