I would like to know where to get said clutch and perhaps speak to you more about it (maybe even arrange test drive) to see if it suits my needs. My flywheel is gonna need resurfacing soon and I should probably fit a new clutch while I'm at it...

    Cheers,

i went shopping today looking for pricing on Exedy clutches since im only hearing good things about them.. so this has led me to my next decision...

Organic or Brass Button.... whats the differences between these two? in laymans terms? what advantages will i have over each one? can someone explain this to me?!

Brass Button has been described as "on/off" basically theres very little slippage, meaning a harsher ride.

Organic Button, is still sort of the same, however it is somewhat (very little!) more forgiving, and you can slip it somewhat (although still very very grippy).

obviously, the brass button will support more horsepower without slipping.

Exedy heavy duty clutches are very good, very good price too.

Unless your planning on running high horsepower, get an exedy heavy duty item.

whatever you do, do it quick, i want to see your car with the new rims, suspension, etc!

edit: Cool1, some people might think this isnt the place for such behaviour, personally i dont care, i like a bit of a joke, but some people may be inclined to give you negative reputation feedback.

I have a GT4 OEM clutch with lots of meat on it. You can have it for free.

Basically heavy duty upgrade for the MR2.

go the exedy racing (jap made) sports organic fullface
will hold easily with the amount of power your MR2 is making

Dude. Take into account also whether or not its a solid centre, or sprung centre.

My sprung centre brass button is fairly easy to get used to. Missus drives my car ocassionally. Mate has driven it. Brother drives it sometimes too. All of them took like a minute to get the concept of it being a LOT grippier and slightly more "on/off" than a std clutch. Saying that, however, peak hour traffic is not quite the PITA people say it is with a brass button.

the only people who would say its a PITA are the people that dont drive for the thrill of driving

i would just like to add that you shouldnt go over the top with ur clutch as its supposed to be the "fuse" in the driveline....if you go too overkill and struggle with the concepts of using the clutch you will just start breaking other driveline components such as gearboxes and driveshafts.....

the exedy organic should do you fine....

the proper use of a clutch and some respect for your vehicle will make it last longer.....

and if your planing on having these tiffs more often then get used to spending big bux

OEM is nice for clutches in stock cars or lightly modded. No jerkiness, no grabbing, works the way is was designed to work.

I have a mate that got a HD clutch for his mr2 and apparently it's not so nice to drive anymore. I guess all that weight helps the tyres grip.

That said i have a exedy hd pressure plate with a four puck friction plate. girl at clutch place said it would chatter less than the 5 puck i had. she was right, abc clutches dandenong, always helpful.

    In regards to this thread;

I am having issues now where the power i'm making (150rwkw) is proving to be too much for the standard clutch. When i was at WSID last week, i would have a problem entering 3rd gear if i tried to shift too quickly, which would result in the clutch simply slipping. Can anyone recommend a clutch specialist whom i could speak to near Wetherill Park / Liverpool in regards to a suitable heavier-duty item?

there is no problem driving with a rooted clutch besides it being a pain in the ass and having to shave more meat off the flywheel because of all the heat spots your causing...but thats no biggie

my friend once in an ae92 had a screwed clutch and we were changing it right away so he drove reverse as fast as he could....put the car in fifth and dropped it.....the revs went right to 5K and took him like 30 seconds to start moving foreward again....stupid thing to do but it was piss funny....and the smell was unbelivable
