    Default Normal Diff temperature/Noise - F Series - Truetrac

    Hey all,

Just wondering what temp range is considered normal for an F Series diff? (Or any diff for that matter)

Say after driving at 100km/h for ~30mins ish.

I couldn't keep my hand on the housing for more than a few seconds. (Ambient temp <10degC) (I've never checked the normal diff so got nothing to compare against).

P.S. It has new oil up to the filler hole.

Also, I have some sort of whirring noise (frequency changes with road speed). Its not loud, but audible. Don't know if its normal or not though.

What noises do truetracs make? Anyone got one with similar noises? Obviously i expect some mechanical noises when its locking but the whirring occurs when driving normally.

    Thanks all

I don't have any noise (but I probably couldn't hear it over the engine) except for standard gear whine from old ring/pinion.

Heat wise it would be a lot hotter than standard.

Even after non-spirited drives she still enjoys spewing a bit of her guts.

    Thanks man

I had a look again at home and noticed some guts spewing also. (Didn't notice any this morning at work, but the drive home may have been more spirited heh).

I was able to measure the temps with a thermocouple and found that the fins were around 55degC and the body itself near the back was around 80degC and it got cooler towards the front. From what I can find this is probably normal.

I think it might just be some gear noises I can hear, will see how it goes this week.
