Thumbs down Driving with a stuffed turbo

Well there goes my aspirations of selling the RAV for now...

Not 100% sure why it's not boosting anymore, but the most I'll get out of it is an exhausting huff under load, and about 2Psi. Checked for leaks and kinks in hoses, but there's nothing blindingly obvious. Is it still ok to drive the car as it is? It got home ok (cautiously) after I found the BOV wasn't letting off excess charge-air anymore.

I hate this car, it's become a curse.

I would tread carefully, if the turbine wheel has shat itself you will have bits of metal/ceramic floating around the intake, not good!

As Squid has said, don't drive it around.
see if you can check wich part of the turbine has gone.
If it's the exhaust side of the turbo then any further damage would be minimal, if it's the air intake side then yes there could be parts of the turbine go through to your motor.
Check to see if the BOV has shit it self it could be stuck open.

If it feels good "DO IT" Unless it harms others.(or upsets the RTA)
Enjoy what you have To Day,cause you can't take it with you.

Likewise check any piping as well, the little pipe between my turbo and intercooler blew a couple of times could be as simple as a loose bracket.

Well if it's one thing I've come to learn about my car, it's that nothing is EVER simple! I'm pretty sure the turbo isn't spinning anymore, and I've no idea why. Usually you can hear it spooling up with a bit of a whistle, but now it's more of a huff.

I'll check out the BOV to see if it's stuck, but I kinda doubt if it is. With the current intercooler setup, I'm not exactly sure if the BOV is actually getting it's full intended use. I just have my suspicions...

Thumbs up Re: Driving with a stuffed turbo

Looks like I got lucky this time, the BOV popped out of position, I might need a new mount for it... somehow. I've since found that I'm distinctly lacking in tools, and a trip to Repco or somewhere similar might be in order soon. Just need a place to put them.
