Hi, I have the CAMS manual and if I'm reading it correctly then for "Marque Sports cars 2B" then a Westfield must be 1600cc...16v 0r 20v is OK...but > 1600cc = not OK. This is not critical for me..just want to have max fun with max reliability for min dollars....surely not too much to ask for!!.(and a lot of the Marque Sports over here in WA have non compliant gearsets, brake rotors, rear brakes anyway).

I could be wrong though (it has happened!).

I see by your avatar you have a Westfield with a ST. Have you modified CR or cams. Are you running an aftermarket ECU? Are you happy with it? How does it compare to modified "race tuned" 16V's?

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Cheers

Hi...the Tiger does demand respect...very short wheelbase, Detroit locker diff....plenty of torque = lightning fast spins on exits of most(!) corners. I have repositioned panhard rod, fitted yoko A048R, and don't boot it until it is straight..and it's fun. The Westfield is more enjoyable with fantastic corner entry speed, consistant brake feel and quicker point to point with a std 88kw corolla motor. Should be just the thing for a bit of fun with 130kw or thereabouts. I'm thinking of a 20V conversion initially and then turboing that as a low boost, hi compression set up to retain some off boost performance (car very light). What ecu to do you run....would you buy it again?
    Cheers
David .....yes.... Maxwell Smart did drive one (and a Karman Ghia)...He bought the Tiger back in real life off the studio props dept and had it restored....unfortunately he passed away only months after getting it back onto the road.

    What do YOU want?

The 3SGE is a sweet ride... makes good power.

But a 4AG can also plant good power as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&h...&v=sPIaXDlExaE

Yeah thats why I was asked categories and if they are important to you. There are some people running near Formula Atlantic type engines in some of these classes, so its hard to be ultra competitive. However from what I've seen, the driver can make a real difference, so its not always the guys with massive budgets that win.

That said, yep I have a "standard" Blacktop 4AGE in mine, and have done a fair bit of trackwork in it... basically its enough engine for me, I don't need more power as there is more to gain from me learning how to drive quicker than just having a higher trap speed. In fact, driving around for a couple of years with the lower power motor will improve your speed as you must learn to maximise your cornering and braking skills.

After you've gained experience with the stock car, then start tuning suspension, tyres, brakes etc... and only after you've conquered these should you need to look at more power.

Sorry it doesn't sound as exciting as those saying "3SGE FTW!!@!" but more power just lessens the time to your next spin

    David,

I started with a smallport in my Fraser - then went to a Silvertop with mild cams and a Haltech. [No more peak power but more torque down low]. It's great, and as quick as the others, even though it's a bit lardy at 620kgs.

I looked at a 3SGE, but it was more expensive by the time bellhousings and the like were sorted. It also puts you out of the normal range of Clubbies and into the realm of the strokers, S2000's etc - depends who you want to play with really.

If it's fine at the moment, I'd recommend leaving it alone till you've sorted the car and got used to driving it fast as it is. Then you can repower - at which point I'd go for a standard Blacktop / std ECU.

Before I put in the Silvertop, I went lower diff [4.44] then light flywheel then CR Albins gearset in the T50. Each step was worthwhile, though lots of laps and advanced driving courses are money better spent!

    Have fun with it ......................

    Rick,
You speak good sense. The Westfield is a very different drive to my other cars (Tiger and Datsun 2000). I need to come to grips with later braking, higher mid corner speeds etc...
I will drive it and search for a 4.44 diff and the other items you mention...they certainly feature in most of the quicker clubbies.
I will also source a blacktop or carefully modded ST and prepare it for later use.

Thanks everybody for your well considered opinions....Ain't this forum (and the internet) great.

    Cheers

I personally suggest a silvertop engine with an aftermarket ECU straight up. I think in this case like many blacktop engines are a waste of money because they only produce marginally more power but once you factor in how much more they usually go for in asking price you could probably fit a set of aftermarket cams to a silvertop. I know I have said it before but the standard 20V ecu's are rubbish when it comes to making power/torque. Lax timing and a crude fuel map coupled with reliability issue, however maybe I was unusually unlucky. I also think sticking to the 1600 class is a good idea, it keeps the Honda powered boys away.

The other thing that's important is to get together with other clubbie owners. There are quite a few in WA - most of them you could catch up with via the OzClubbies forum [ http://www.oz-clubbies.com/forums/ ]
