the gen 4 eng is pretty much the same as the gen3 but with CAS and COP and weaker conrods.
i'd think any decent ecu could be adapted to be used with CAS+COP as that's what most new eng's have anyway. same as ecu's can be setup to get the crank angle signal off the dizzy and using multi coil packs.
what's power/budget? budget ecu would be adaptronic, seem to have all the controls and output's of more expensive ecu's.
but yeh, there's a couple thread's about the stock rods being weak, so first thing is to change them either to gen2/3 rod's or forged aftermarket items.
