n00b brake bleed question

ok, I know the order to bleed brakes in, but if I'm going to drain all the brake fluid and do a complete replacement (which I am), is there a special way to do this in terms of order of which caliper to remove? (I need to remove all 4 calipers anyway)

read some where that you have to start from the rear brakes. First the one farthest from the master cylinder.

Start with the furthest from the Master Cylinder (usually the passenger side rear), then work your way towards the master cylinder: IE passenger rear, drivers rear, passenger front, drivers front.

nah you can remove calipers in any order!!

Just make sure when you bleed to do in the order that mullet is talking about!

If you have the system completely dry, you may find that it is difficult to bleed them again as the MC will not be primed when you start fresh. It may be worth your while doing whats reffered to as 'bench bleeding' or priming the MC with some fluid before you start as otherwise you will be doing a lot of pumping to try and get fluid moving around.
Why do you have to remove all the callipers?

Invest in some cheapo brake hose clamps, and clamp the rubber sections of brake hose before removing calipers. It will make bleeding so much easier when calipers are reinstalled.

If you want to completely replace the fluid choose your new fluid in a different colour than what's in there (couple of different colours out there). Bleed your brakes (furthest away from MC first) until fluid changes to new colour and whole system will be replaced with new fluid.

im guessing he wants to change lines as well as the old ones will probaly not reach to the larger caliper... ?

Before you start removing brake parts, remove the master cyl cap, stretch a couple of layers of glad wrap over the top and replace the cap. Then the fluid will not drip much at all, and you won't have hassles bleeding.

It might take a couple of attempts to get an airtight seal with the glad wrap, and it probably won't work on every car. But IMHO this is better than clamping the flexi hoses. Sometimes a clamped hose will collapse internally and block.

maybe people are not understanding - I *WANT* to have all the brake fluid bleed out, I want to do a total replacement

dont worry about taking it all off....just pull the calipers off in any order.

if you do what you are thinking of doing, ie pushing out all the old fluid with all the old calipers still on the car, you will end up wasting nice brake fluid when you take them off...

when u have put the nissan calipers on, bleed from the farthest from the M/C. And pretty much open the needle and flush it all out, it will take a short while..

do this for every caliper (flushing out the fluid till the colour changes) then do a pressure bleed.

as for bleeding, put brakes on, fill master cylinder, pump for a bit (and always have second helper/GF/mum pouring brake fluid in ) go around and let some air out.. pump a bit more.. need to fill those lines (and proportioning valve etc)..

then do back brakes (how is the line split? equal distance to each brake? ) do one side, then do other side.. is ok for now..
then do fronts...

then go back and do back ones again (one side, other side, then first side again) just in case any air got into rear line during front bleeding, and then do fronts again....same way.

anyways, thats how i would do it if i just bled a dry system.. and if i was worried about having air in there.

brake fluid is cheap and stopping is..... no.. i can't say it ....

Paint them something else before they go on. I don't know whether it's the photo or the shade of red but it looks homo.
