Hi all,
I've finally got all of the bits together for my 1UZFE going in my JZA80, a JZ version of my clutch was being completed at the same time, but this is for the UZ engines.
It is a new 9" twin-plate clutch setup, there is another like this, but options are good.
I've included all the bits I've pieced together, I need to get a tailshaft done to suit, but I was going to get one custom made anyway.
All parts are of a high grade, the clutch is designed for high-power supercharged Commodores that are street driven, there have been NO shortcuts.
Included on the picture are:
-"Jack's" T56 adapter. Steel plate, two pieces welded together with dowel locations to adapt the T56 to the A340 bellhousing. Mine is a perfect fit, snug even, and everything is centralised and lines up perfectly.
-Textralia Exo-Skel twin-plate clutch. Proven ability in supercharged Commodores and Falcons behind the T56. Details can be found HERE
-Hurst Shifter for Camaro. Replaces the Commodore rear linkage setup with one that locates the shifter close to the factory JZA80 position. Comes with white or black ball with gear pattern, specify when ordering. Mine came from Ebay USA. Others are available, I wanted a bit of bogan to match the V8.
-Camaro Offset Lever. Required when using the Camaro shifter on a Commodore T56.
-Wider pilot bearing. The T56 input shaft on my box is 165mm (I need to verify this, going from memory), and has a 15mm OD. I'm using a 63002-2RS bearing which is 32x15x13mm. This is slightly wider than the normal bearing with these dimensions, giving me more purchase on both the crank and the input shaft.
-Arduino based speedo controller. I was using this micro-controller for my Varex exhaust, I've now added on a circuit for adapting the JZA80 speedo to the T56. It also will trigger the reverse lockout solenoid on the gearbox, so you don't have to force it. When I've finished testing it, I'm happy to put the schematic and source code up for anyone to use.
All up, this has cost me a little under $2200, all taxes included.
It's likely to be a little more when replicated as I got a good deal on the clutch as it was his first, but I can't imagine much more. My car is a daily driver, so considerations have been made with this in mind, and it should be more than capable of handling the 300rwkw supercharged 1UZFE I have planned when I return from my roadtrip. For the conversion I just wanted everything to work as it should, so I've made sure the detail is there. Once you have the above, you basically only need a tailshaft and a gearbox, mine came from an HSV VX Clubsport. VE Commodore boxes are different and aren't compatible with my setup. Expect $1-1.5k if you hunt around for a box.
Feel free to ask questions, happy to oblige.
Cheers,
Nathan

i dont have a funny or cool signature.
Had a question about the shift lever. This is needed to fit the Camaro shifter to the Commodore box, here are some pics outlining why, the Camaro lever is the shorter one:
Without the lever, you won't be able to select every gear as the pivot point is wrong.

am just curious why only one of the clutch plates has a sprung centre?
I'd guess its so the two friction discs don't "wind up" against each other but having only one sprung would mean the other would tend to wear faster.
well spotted
don't want to come across as a hater but with all this effort I think I'd just stuck a 6 litre LS engine on the front of a T56.
Dunno to be honest, I'll ask him when I go to assemble it.
I don't really want an LS, I wanted a supercharged 1UZ. A W58 wasn't going to cut it, so my options are V160, an R154, a TKO or the T56.
The last 3 cost about the same, the V160 costs more. The ratios on the T56 are best suited to my needs and is nice an easy to get hold of.

was thinking about this (the clutch centres) this arvo while dog-minding. Perhaps it's a way of giving you a hardier clutch but with some give to allow daily driving?
Anyway - neat setup and interesting to see the A340 bellhousing being re-used for a growing list of gearbox mods.
The whole point of the clutch was big power handling in a streetable package, guess we'll see in a month or so![]()

Im about to do exactly the same thing but with a 2JZ in my A70. Very interested to see how this clutch goes, I was previously looking at using a twin plate carbon clutch from Extreme Clutch but Id be looking at more like $2500.
Did your clutch price include the flywheel? Did the flywheel have to be customised to suit your motor? Im guessing its highly unlikely that an LS has the same bolt pattern and starter offset as a UZ.
I used to eat alot of natural foods. That was until I learned that most people died of natural causes.
I can vouch for the drivability of the twin plate carbon from extreme.
It will be interesting to see how it compares to this.

I realise its probably mentioned in JCMOs 54 page build thread but how did the drivability of this clutch go?
Also, that link to the Textralia website shows nothing, there are no items on their website at all. Are they still around? If so, are they aiming to be at a stage where I can just ring them and order the JZ equivalent of this clutch?
