Default Celsior seems to be using more fuel suddenly.....

    Hey guys,

It the last few weeks, I have noticed that my Celsior (UCF10) is using more fuel than usual. The spark plugs were changed about 3 months ago, so I assume they are not the cause.....

Just wondering what people might suggest I start with? What could make it suddenly start using more fuel?

The cars performance doesn't seem the same as it always was.....

    Thanks,
    JoJo

Possibly injectors?? how does it start? take a long time kicking over than finally fires?

my 7m had leaking injectors and would take +5 seconds of cranking to start, than when i got a reco'd set it would fire nearly as soon as the key was turned and was getting roughy 80km's more to a tank!

How much more fuel are we talking here? ie. 50%, 100% more?
Is it pumping any black smoke out the back?
Any other issues with the car, rough idle?

My car is also pretty heavy on petrol, I read on a few forums that changing the EFI Coolant Temperature Sensor can have an effect on fuel economy...

I bought the sensor from Toyota not long ago (~$65 trade). Hopefully will be able to swap it over some time this week!

Well, with the same driving style (just to work and back), i would say it's using about 30-40% more fuel.....

    No smoke of any colour......
Idles fine. There has been no other changes I've noticed except for the fuel consumption......

I'd say clogged injector or injectors affecting spray pattern could cause it, then again if the coolant temperature sensor is bad it could cause the motor to run rich.

The coolant temp sensor or if they run a cold start switch is certainly a possibility, if you can check the resistance across the terminals when the engine is cold, then recheck it when the car is at operating temperature. Check for variation. If it's not operating correctly the ECU could be adding excess fuel to compensate for colder engine temperature.

Do 1uzfe's run a cold start injector? or just increase the injector duty cycle for cold start?

Yeah? I cant be for sure but it would have started around 2-3weeks ago after my radiator was replaced. Not 100% when it actually started tho....

Could that be related you think? Or just a coincedience?

Do these run 2 coolant temp sensors? (ie; 1 for ECU and 1 for gauge)
Or do both run off the same sensor?

    Air cleaner is fine......

hmm i would have thought a faulty o2 sensor or CTS for that matter would throw a code, having said that just because they haven't, doesn't mean theres not a fault.
